More True Blood season 2

Had a very frustrating day yesterday, in which the only worthwhile thing I did until the late evening was to watch ep 4 of season 2 of True Blood.

Spoilers behind cut, and please no spoilers for later eps in comments.

Apart from the Maryann plot, which I'm still not that interested in (though intrigued to know what she is - a Cretan earth goddess? The Minotaur? the great god Pan?)I'm still loving this show to pieces. It's a different sort of love than the love I have for BtVS/AtS. I can't really describe what the difference is, though. Maybe one is 'home' and the other is 'the little cabin in the woods'? Heh!

The first scene of this episode was an absolute delight. This is the scene where Bill throws Hoyt out of the house and Hoyt thinks Bill's mad at him for making out with Jessica, only for Bill to insist he was trying to protect Hoyt, and then both Sookie and Jessica make fun of him (Bill, that is) while sweet, good-natured Hoyt plain refuses to believe him. The whole thing is completely hilarious because it takes a stock teen romance movie scene and turns it upside down.

That said, I think Bill was lying to himself. I think he really is beginning to feel fatherly towards Jessica, even though he finds her so annoying. I mean, he taught her to 'glamour'. That was so cute!

Can someone please tell me, though, what it was Jessica got the glamoured man to shout out loud in the vamp hotel lobby? Something rude about Jesus, I think, but though I sat through the scene twice, I couldn't make it out. Should've put the subtitles on. Why do people have to mumble?

Speaking of the vamp hotel, I loved it, right down to the 'room service'. That was so funny! Also, every Eric/Bill scene is ridiculously slashy. The one in the ladies' wear department in the store in ep 3 was the best so far, but the couch scene in this ep was pretty slashy too.

Still enjoying the Jason stuff as well, though can see he's getting sucked down a very dark path. Things are going to get nasty, aren't they?

And great to see Lafayette get his groove back.

Wish I could watch some more, but I think that's it now until next week. :(

The whole Maryann thing drags a bit, the only upside being that they undress egg a lot and I already found the actor already hot on Dollhouse, though the role is not really interesting.

But the rest of the season is so much brilliance. I love the Bill/Eric slashyness, especially the bit where they both stand in the women's department, with Eric in that weird training suit :)
Love it!

Deto for all things Jessica and Hoyt.

I thought Jason's plot works great that season, mainly because those fellowshipguys are such a brilliant parody on christian fundamentalism.

Not a minotaur (I don't think. I don't know the myth of minotaurs well enough to completely dismiss it. It could be a variation, but I don't think so. That's not the explanation they gave anyway. And, yeah, there is an explanation of what she is. I won't spoil).

Re: Jason... it's Jason. He gets into trouble, but he usually finds his way out again. His heart is usually is in the right place (even if his dick is always in the wrong one). I rather love him in the waning parts of the season -- he's a really dumb dufus but it's hilarious and awesome. I actually think some of his stuff at the end of the season was some of the best stuff on the show -- in a totally lighthearted and unserious way. Some of the stuff in the middle (and the very end) is dark. But he's has a nice stint of hilarious fun (though of course he is dead serious. It's hilarious to us. Heh.)

Marianne is a Maenad .

I can't remember what Jessica had that man shout but it was obscene.

Yes... but not so much for Jason... more for other characters...

Lafayette makes everything better.

Spoiler much about Marianne? She didn't want that. :-/ You don't find out what she is until towards the end of the season after all. :-P

Anyway, like everyone else. Long live Lafayette! He is ze awesome. :-D

I'm still loving this show to pieces. It's a different sort of love than the love I have for BtVS/AtS.

I know exactly what you mean. It's just so much fun, but I have no real desire to analyse it or read meta about it. It is what it is, and I'm just enjoying the heck out of it!

Aww, you really sound as though you've fallen for dear old Bill. ;)

But I agree with you, the Bill and Jessica scenes are delightful! I can't remember what it was Jessica got the glamoured man to say, but I'm pretty sure it was rude.

I liked Jason in S1, but he's even better (and funnier) in this season.

And yes the Eric/Bill scenes are incredibly slashy. I love that scene in the ladies wear department!

Why did you feel guilty in the first place, Cal?

I think it was mainly because a lot of people seemed to ridicule the show at first (especially in the BtVS fandom), and I seemed to be in the minority of people who really enjoyed it. But then S2 happened and I completely fell in love with the show, so I stopped feeling guilty about watching it and just had fun with it instead. And now I no longer care what other people think. :)

And I have fallen for Bill. I can't help it. He's just a bit rubbish really, isn't he, which is very endearing.

Yes, I love how old fashioned Bill is. He tries so hard, bless him, and you're right, it is very endearing. I have to admit to having a bit of a soft spot for him myself.

I forget exactly what the glamoured man yelled, but it was something like "Fuck Jesus!" I know there was Jesus and cussing involved, anyway.

I don't know; I haven't gone looking for webisodes. I shall have to do that!

The main thing for me with the Maryann plot was it dragged on too long.

The Hoyt/Jessica thing just gets more and more delightful ^__^ And I usually hate that kind of cutesy thing, but they are just too damn adorable and sincere.

For such a beefcake/alpha male kind of guy, Eric does slashy very well :D

I really dislike Jason and I mostly find his scenes to be grating and difficult to get through. I think he gets a ridiculous amount of screentime.

Yes it is snaggable, and done by [livejournal.com profile] scarsandsecrets.

By the way, I re-watched episode 4 yesterday, and the glamoured man yelled: "(some girl, didn't get the name) is a stuck-up whore who let Chase finger her in the church".

That's my poetic contribution for today ;)
