Indeed. I didn't stay up this time, but having put in some hard nights for Adelaide to Melbourne it's wonderful to have it all come right now.
Though it is very odd seeing the general media catch my (previously rather sad and lonely) crush on Ali Cook. The Times ran a piece in the "news" section yesterday about him going back to Beds after this to help out with lambing. Many references to his soft, flexible hands. I wish they didn't have the paywall up, else I would link to this frankly weird piece of journalism...
Stayed up. willing them to take that final wicket and then get the little urn. (Brits on f list will know why I always have visions of them handing over Ernie Wise at this moment!

All I've been able to see is the highlights program, so I'll see how it all ended tonight, I hope. I did wake up at 2am and put on the teletext, though, to find out what happened.
You're probably not alone in your crush on Ali Cook. I bet it's widespread in the Barmy Army.
England played brilliantly. Australia were desperately bad. The Barmy Army supported their team brilliantly, and had even won over many of the Australian commentators by the end.
Some Australians are pretending they don't care, but they do. They don't like losing.
My other half spent half the time glued to the BBC live updates and half the time not watching in case he jinxed the scores!
Despite the number of ex pats over here, it's still highly amusing to have someone look at me with a perplexed expression and say - what do you mean they've stopped for lunch! *g*
and half the time not watching in case he jinxed the scores!
I'm the same. Every time one of the commentators said, "England are bound to win," or something like it, I was practically chucking rocks at the telly and yelling at them not to jinx the team.
and say - what do you mean they've stopped for lunch! *g*
Hee! What about stopping for tea? What did people make of that?
:) I daresay you lot will soon pick yourselves up. It's one of those end of an era type things. The next generation of players will come forward and you'll be up and running again.
:) The rules of cricket are very odd. Basically, it boils down to this:
There are two teams. One is in and one is out. The team that is out tries to get the team that is in out. When anyone in the team that is in is out, they go in. When they're all out the team that is out goes in and the team that is in goes out. At some point they all go in for lunch and then again later for tea.
Or, the short version: there's a lot of in and out.
Mentioning stopping for tea generally brings about stunned silence and flailing! *g* Now this being the west coast, if I'd said, stopped for coffee there would be general murmurs of approval. :)
Stayed up to watch it and it was awesome! Our lads played out of their skins. Not sure we can top this, actually. Now I'm looking forward to the ODIs and the T20s. Cricket; once got, you're got for life, arent' you? :)

My b-i-l is one of them. I told him last weekend that I was gloating a bit and he just stuck his nose in the air and acted all superior.

Date: 2011-01-07 07:23 pm (UTC)Nooooooo....we didn't mind at all, naha, no way! Losing the Ashes twice in a row.....barely raised an eyebrow.
*Curls up in ball and continues weeping*
Congrats to you all. We were outplayed at every turn.
