I'm going to write a short review of the latest Buffy comic, but before I do, just wanted to say a few words about the Joss Whedon thing.

We all know the whole 'unneeded breath' thing is silly, right? We do, right?
Vampires may not need oxygen to live, but they do need to breathe in order to speak. Fine.

But does it make sense to anyone else (as it does to me) that their breath would feel rather on the cool side? They have no body heat of their own. They derive it from drinking blood. But does that warm them up so much their breath would be as warm as a human's?

Opinions, anyone?

I'm now nearly at the end of season 7 in my own personal re-watch.

Some not terribly coherent thoughts behind cut.

I've been meaning to make this post for a while. Can't remember how many times I've written it in my head. I just haven't managed to find the will to write it all down properly.

I'm also not sure whether I should flock this post or not. It probably doesn't matter. We'll see.

As you know, I've been rewatching BtVS in its entirety. I'm now near the end of season 5. I meant to post as I was going along, but then the official rewatch started on [livejournal.com profile] fantas_magoria so I wasn't sure I should. But here are a few muddled thoughts which probably don't belong over there anyway.

Some rather incoherent thoughts on the above, some of which I should probably have waited and posted on the BtVS rewatch, but whatever.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of Agent Carter, though...

Speaking of Agent Carter, I saw someone on Whedonesque (this was a while back when they were still talking about the show on that site, which they don't seem to be doing any more) saying that they thought it was the best show in terms of being centred around a great female character since BtVS. I made a comment agreeing with them.

Forgive the not very good icon. I made it myself.

I have no time at the moment, but anyway, some thoughts (which I'm sure someone else has already thought and expressed more eloquently) on (according to Joss Whedon) Loki being 'the new Spike.'

ETA: I should probably state that when Joss said this, he was probably just referring to the fan (or fangirl) reaction to Loki being similar to the reaction to Spike, not implying that he thought the characters were that similar in other ways.

I've been mulling this over for the last few weeks, trying to get my thoughts together. Probably, I won't be able to write down what is perfectly clear in my head, but here goes.

It seems I may not be mono-fandom any more, and it's all Shakespeare's fault.

Musings behind cut, with spoilers for the two Thor movies (should anyone care), and (incomprehensible to many of you) stuff to do with old Marvel comics.

I don't have a Treme icon, (if anyone knows where I can get one, please tell me), so Lester from The Wire will have to do.

I didn't mean to go so long without posting (it's two whole days!) but I've been writing. Yes, really. I'm 4000 words into the last in my Spike/Giles season 7 series, and beginning to think I may actually finish it this year after all. Hoorah! I've also written several more chapters of that Ten Years After thing, but am not much closer to working out What Is Going On.

Speaking of Spike/Giles, what is wrong with the 'ship anyway (as opposed to other non-canon 'ships like Spike/Xander)? I saw a rather good comment fic the other day on a community actually called [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic, in a post entitled 'Ships of Shame. Apparently, according to the writer of this post, Spike/Giles is one of those. I don't get it. Can anyone explain why (beyond the obvious, Spike is Evil etc, etc, because that doesn't seem to bother the Spander 'shippers as far as I can see)?

But anyway, yay! for writing. The other thing I've been doing this week is finally starting to watch Treme. This is the first David Simon show I've watched since The Wire (I have Generation Kill on the shelf but am reluctant to tackle it), and so far I love it to bits.

Mild spoilers behind cut, as I've only seen four episodes of season 1 as yet. No spoilers please.

Which, yeah, does happen to be the title of the last arc in the Angel & Faith comic, but  it fits this post.

More musings within on how nothing is new in fandom, or among comics/TV show writers. Contains spoilers for True Blood and for the Buffy comics.

Further to my last writing post, about Ao3, I can see I need to work on my fic summaries. Also, it seems that if I wanted the stories I was posting on the site to get mentioned on, say, [livejournal.com profile] su_herald, I should have been putting today's (or whichever day it was's) date on them, as [livejournal.com profile] killerweasel said. Is that right?

Anyway, not what this post is about. No, this post is about trying to write stuff (in fanfic, I mean, as I've never written anything else) you don't actually believe, and whether the results are ever convincing, and also about unintentionally writing stuff you never meant to. More behind cut, with spoilers for some of my own stories, should anyone care about those.

Back in September last year I made two posts on the above subject, here and here, the first about the similarities between 'shipping arguments (or more like 'shipping knock-down, drag-out fights) in the X-Men fandom and the Buffy fandom, and the second about how mainstream comics often don't write female characters well (for which also see Comics!Buffy).

Well, I've been lurking on the CBR comics forums again, specifically in the X-Men section, and I've found yet another parallel, this time to the perception among some Buffy comics readers that Angel's season 8 actions are being systematically retconned and whitewashed.

Contains spoilers for recent X-Men storylines, should anyone care.

Okay, so following on from my post about endings yesterday - which got rather sidetracked in places, must admit, but that's what happens when an author (ie. Joss) comes back and spoils a perfectly good ending - some more about endings, fanfic etc.

There have been various posts recently about the deadness (or otherwise) of the author. I haven't commented because, frankly, I can never think of anything clever enough to say, and besides, as in most things, I change my mind all the time.

Endings

I have a few days to myself, during which I should try to do something productive, I know, but which I already suspect I'll squander and end up achieving nothing. :( I can't even think of any prompts for the final week of March at [livejournal.com profile] sb_fag_ends, and though I've read some of your posts this morning, I can't think of a single intelligent thing to say.

Oh anyway, endings.

They're hard, aren't they? So often TV shows get them wrong. There was Battlestar Galactica, for instance.....

More behind cut with spoilers for BSG, The Hour, Being Human, AtS, The Wire.

This sort of post (ie. where people talked about their own fics) were quite common back in the day, now not so much. But whatever. I was bored at work yesterday and this was the result. Also, I'm procrastinating about starting the next story in my Spike/Giles season 7 series.

Recently, someone was kind enough to read my 2006 fic (boy, that long ago!) Vampire Winter, and leave feedback. When answering their comment, I got sucked into re-reading the story myself.

So recently, I started re-watching BtVS season 5 for the first time in ages. Got as far as FFL then had to stop with no idea when I'd get the chance to watch more.

Last night, I managed three more eps, ending with Into the Woods, and have some thoughts about that ep and the end of Buffy/Riley behind cut.

Last spammy post of the day, and yes, not really quite the right icon, but I couldn't find one of Comics!Magneto.

So, anyway, probably no one is at all interested in this except me, but...
