I adore The Hour. I love the nuanced characters. Juliet Stevenson was superb.

Am just a bit concerned that it'll turn out Clarence is the Soviet spy. I like Clarence.

ETA: as you can see I also made a Freddie icon, though I think the Hector one is better.

Yes, I'd say so. I love it absolutely to pieces. I just hope the end isn't a let down, because so far the mystery is very intriguing.

Yay for icons!

I love all of the main characters, but Freddie most of all. His expression when Hector told him about his affair with Bel was heartbreaking. It's wonderful to watch a series that isn't just 'Typical Male Charater' gets together with 'Typical Female Character' in a 'Typical Relationship' and, instead, has characters with rough edges whose feelings aren't neat... And then there's murder, and intrigue, and politics, and sexual politics... The Radio Times critics seem to have had a problem getting their heads around it, saying that it's 'exasperating' and that it's hard to care about any of the characters. What?

I would watch it for Bel's wardrobe alone!

I find the Radio Times's reaction puzzling too. What's not to love? It's all wonderful. The Lix/Freddie took me by surprise, but I thought it worked really well in the circumstances. And I love how nuanced it all is.

The different 'classes' aren't stereotyped either. The Elms family are all very sympathetic, I think, and Marnie's dad seems like a decent bloke.

(I already miss him from the Wire. His acting in that final season was ...amazing. Actually everyone's was.)

Well done on your icons! When you mentioned yesterday that you needed some I thought about the session on Saturday and wondered if you might give it a go, and you did. I think they look great.

I have to admit that I've not paid full attention to The Hour up until last night, and might just have to go back and watch it on the iPlayer. Yesterday's ep was a cracker though.

Thanks for your kind words about my icon. I think the Hector and Bel ones aren't too bad, but I need to remake the Freddie one. It needs less black and more of the thing he's standing next to, which is a camera. As it is, you can't tell.

He is, though his accent isn't quite RP enough for the period (ie. he doesn't sound enough like the Queen), but it's not just him. Everyone is excellent.

Thank you. :) I think the Bel and Hector ones are not too bad. I need to remake the Freddie one, though. At the moment, it just looks like he's wearing an odd earmuff rather than standing next to a camera.

I highly recommend going back and rewatching previous eps. I actually re-watched last night's episode before going to sleep. Was glue to it.

Yes, I think you're right. I haven't seen the cap obviously but I'd be inclined to move Freddie right over and lose most of the black. That's a really pretty Bel icon.

The Bel icon was easiest in fact and is the only one I managed to get completely square.

I'm a bit in love with Freddie myself. He has this vulnerable quality that's very attractive.

I like that a lot better. The shape of the camera makes his face stand out against it. It's more him if you see what I mean. Very nice work!

The screencap was rectangular and I couldn't square it and include in the pic where it said BBC on the camera. A pity.

Welcome to the sometimes massive annoyances of icon-making *g*. I find getting a good crop the hardest thing to do, but they make or break an icon. I've had to junk so many because I got half way through and realised that there was a way I could crop it better!

Well, I hope I might get the hang of square cropping soon. After that, there'll be no stopping me. :)
