Intervention was next up. I'm going to watch one more and then I'm going to bed.

Still love this ep, though some of the intercutting between the serious stuff and the Spike/Buffybot hi-jinks are a little jarring.

Speaking of which, it's really sweet (in an icky way) that Spike wanted his robot programmed to be an awful lot more than just his sex slave (such a contrast in retrospect with what Warren does to Katrina in Dead Things). He wants her to find him irresistible, but most of all he wants her to be Buffy, even though that leads to some major inconveniences for him. Also, going down on a robot? Again, it's either really icky or very sweet, I'm really not sure which.

Xander looks a bit rough in this episode. Wonder if Nick was going through a bad patch?

I love the whole vision quest. It's beautifully done. And the First Slayer's "Death is your gift" sent shivers down my spine, coming as it did just after I'd watched Spike in FFL telling Buffy that some day she's going to want it (ie. death).

Of course, I love Spike being all heroic under torture and the final scene is probably the one that first made me think there could be some kind of genuine redemption for Spike. Yep. My Redemptionista allegiance stems from this scene. I really didn't think that Spike would ever be allowed to even go this far.

SMG as the Buffybot is adorable. Perky Buffy on steroids.

Further, I think the "heroic under torture" and all that is what makes Buffy think there could be some kind of genuine redemption for Spike. Not that she has a lot of time to really parse it out before she dies...but she's incredibly decent to him from this point until they start with the smoochies. Just sayin'.

Buffybot is a stunner. Take that any way you like. ;-)

In the course of the seven years, I thought Nick aged more than anyone else, even more than ASH.

I love the moment when beaten!Spike is in the elevator, and he stands up when the doors open for his big heroic Last Stand. LOVE the defiant look on his face. Cause, you know he ain't going down without a big ol' fight, no matter that he can barely walk. LOVE. IT.

Crap. Now you're making me want to watch it.

I wonder, if season 5 had been the end of the series, if Spike would have died in The Gift?

Probably, but I would guess that he'd have died INSTEAD of Buffy, rather than in addition to (probably preventing the ritual from starting). I know a lot of people would prefer it, but I can't imagine Joss actually ending the series with Buffy dying. That's just such a depressing message to send.

Nah, she was always going to die in S5. I believe one or two of the writers have sad as much. Only thing that changed was Joss was going to have Sunnydale destroyed then instead of S7.

Wikipedia says: In the fight scenes in "Intervention", Xander was played by Nicholas Brendon's identical twin, Kelly Donovan, because Nicholas suffered from pneumonia at the time. (link)

There's really some ironic meta going on there; in an episode in which Buffy is replaced by an identical robot and nobody notices at first, Xander is also temporarily replaced by his identical twin and nobody notices at all.

I am a very very sick woman... But damn if Spike isn't HOT AS ALL HELL in this episode bleeding all over the place... Not to mention being all heroic without having to...

I had no idea that Kelly had done stand in work in any episode other than "The Replacement." Very interesting!
