The Good Wife season 2
Sep. 4th, 2012 11:08 pmFinally - finally, got around to watching it. Two episodes in, I'm back in the rhythm of it already and once again enjoying the characters enormously. Such a great show.
Speaking of TV shows, James Marsters is appearing in an episode of Warehouse 13. Never seen it. Is it any good?

Good Wife is one of those series that improves as it moves forward.
TV shows, I've found will either improve or decline. This one improves.
I loved the 2nd Season.

Date: 2012-09-05 10:58 am (UTC)I've only seen two episodes so far, but I'm completely hooked again already. Everything about the show is classy - the acting, the characterisation. I'm not keen on lawyer dramas particularly, but the court scenes are always gripping. The city politics are fascinating too.
I also love that it has some decent parts for older women. Very, very few dramas you can say that about. It's grown up telly, but with that high sheen gloss that only American shows can do. Our grown-up telly is always very gritty and real. It would never work in this kind of format.

Although it is getting better. Grey's Anatomy, Once Upon A Time,
Revenge, Political Animals...are all steps in the right direction.
Just hope it continues.

Interesting. To an extent that's true because US is either "subscriber focused" or "ad dollar focused" so more money. They really see television series as a product or product placement over here. You want a nice glossy magazine to advertise all your products in.
The Good Wife gets the star treatment in part due to Ridley Scott, it's demographic (high end buyers), ratings (usually in the top ten- top 20 in the ratings) and best spot of the week (9 pm on Sunday night - that's a high ad dollar spot.)
It has a sizable budget, but saves a great deal on sets, location shots (NYC offers tax free location shooting - which is where it is filmed), and can spend it all on casting, editing, writing.
I think all of that probably makes a difference. (Sigh, I know far too much about this. Considered a career in TV a while back, so did a lot of research - that's how I know.)

Well, at least in this case the ratings etc are well deserved.
