shapinglight: (Buffy with scythe)

Well, now my [livejournal.com profile] rekindlespangel story is done, I don't have any fic writing commitments, so I've decided the next thing I need to work on is finishing my Spike/Giles season 7 WIP. I began it in late 2008, so it's been hanging fire quite long enough, I think.

I think I know where it's going, but there's one detail I need to get straight, which is, does Caleb ever explicitly state that he was responsible for blowing up the Watchers' Council Building? I've looked on the Buffyverse dialogue database but so far haven't come across him - or anyone else - saying so.

Does anyone know?

From Dirty Girls, when The First shows Caleb what Buffy looks like for the fist time:

CALEB: (reaches toward her - First!Buffy) At long last. (tries to touch her face, but his hand goes through her head) All this time. All the work I've done for you... Blowing up the Council, organizing the Ray Charles Brigade, and stickin' all them splits—you never showed me.

It's in "Dirty Girls".

All the work I've done for you... Blowing up the Council, organizing the Ray Charles Brigade...

EDIT: Curse you, [livejournal.com profile] elisi!

I cut out the "sticking all them splits" line because taken out of context, it sounds a bit like Caleb bragging about his gymnastics skills.

ETA: Mostly it's reassuring to know that despite my sojourn into the Whoniverse I can still drag up a random Buffy quote at the drop of a hat. ;)

Nothing to do with your post (I would have had no idea anyway) but I love your icon. Yeah, I get a kick out the scenes where Buffy is kicking ass and swinging that axe-thingy. ("Scythe"? I think not.)

*bows in awe* How the heck do you keep all that info stored up there in your noggin? And why does that gal in your gif remind me of Renee Zellweger?

Very impressive.

I find it hard to keep shooting scripts, actual transcripts and fanfic separated sometimes.

("Scythe"? I think not.)

I remember a big debate on that somewhere. Not really a scythe, not really an axe. Sort of a handblade-scythe-axe-spear combo.

War scythes don't look like typical ones either, though. Given how much of the blade is concave, it's arguably more scythe than axe.

Some of us believe this is what it's actually supposed to be.

I think the color is definitely a shout-out to the Restless speech.

And also to Joyce's axe in "School Hard", and the fire trucks of "Graduation Day, Pt. 2" and "Once More with Feeling", and...

...well, I guess that's a different discussion. :D

Ha! Truth-be-told, I tend to think most references are stretching it, BUT, you could continue the parallel with Joyce knocking Spike, who uses a "manly" piece of wood to stun Buffy, out with Buffy killing Caleb.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "Joyce's axe in 'School Hard'. There are many others. Fire (and firefighting) is a pretty major motif in the Buffyverse, in my opinion.

Oh dear, that is a bit more definite than you wanted :(

You will have to spin it that he is lying or something.

What on earth does stickin' all them splits mean? Who or what is a 'split'? And I've never noticed it before so I wonder what I heard it as or if the database is wrong.

Rather late to this, but if you really want to know...

A "split" is an impolite slang term for "female person". It's short for "split tail", an equally impolite term.

One of these days I'm going to have to count up the numbers and see how many ways there are of saying "drunk", "crazy", and "female" in English. It's truly breathtaking.
