True Blood season 6 ep 9
Aug. 12th, 2013 04:13 pmSo, I watched this, and have ended up....
Spoilers behind cut.
....at times moved (the Terry's funeral scenes), at times feeling a bit sick (Eric's killing spree), at times feeling a bit sick but laughing at the same time (Jason telling the psychiatrist he shouldn't have told Eric what he told him, Jason cheerfully greeting the dismembered corpses of his former comrades as he followed Eric down the corridor), at times pleased (Jessica didn't die, and neither did James), at times slightly bored (the Sookie/Warlow scene), at times pleasantly surprised (Lettie Mae's pastor was very compelling, I can see why Arlene chose him to conduct the funeral, Alcide was much improved too), and a lot of the time just plain puzzled.
I don't understand Lilith's plan. If it was her plan. Why was she so focused on Bill saving the vampires locked in the white room? What about all the others that Eric set free? I suppose it could be something to do with whatever happens in the final episode. Eric let everyone go, but they all drank the infected TruBlood except for the vampires in the white room. All those other vampires will die. So, in vampire terms, Bill saved the righteous (yes, I know it's a bit of a stretch), whereas Eric unleashed hell on earth.
And none of it made him feel any better about Norah.
I still have no idea what will happen to Eric in the final episode, but I can't help thinking that final scene of him and Pam looking at each other in daylight for the first time ever had echoes of Godric's death scene in season 2. Needless to say, I hope I'm as wrong about this as I was about James and Jessica.
I enjoy True Blood a lot, despite its campiness, and despite the fact that the show obviously expects us to just blink and forget the atrocities committed by the vampire characters we like (well, they may have to be penitential for a bit, as I'm sure Bill will be, but they'll soon be forgiven, and even the ones who aren't penitential (Pam, for instance) the audience will carry on liking). But a lot of my enjoyment is tied up in the vampire characters as an ensemble. I don't want any more of them to die/leave, especially not Eric. If nothing else, Bill needs him as a foil.
Oh, anyway. Overthinking it. It was fun, and I'm looking forward to dear little Jason having erotic dreams about Eric.

Date: 2013-08-12 03:21 pm (UTC)And while I have quibbles with the season here and there, I will say it's infinitely more coherent than last season. There are still problems, but the show is better than last year.

Date: 2013-08-12 03:39 pm (UTC)I think seasons 3&4 were the low points for this show, and even those had some good stuff in them.
The new showrunners have said that next year will focus far more on issues local to Bon Temps, so they want this vampire war business over. Which I assume it will be by the end of the next episode. It will probably also mean slimming down the cast some more. I'm just not sure which others characters they might regard as having passed their sell-by date.

Date: 2013-08-12 06:15 pm (UTC)God, TRUE BLOOD. So gratuitously violent and yet so hilarious! The groin! The face stomping! WTF. But at the same time, so so over the top as to be funny.
I thought a lot of parts lagged. Most of the flashbacks were boring and pointless. But I'm glad James survived! And what's her name, Jason's new vampire master. She's hilarious. As was all of the hippie dippie stoned handwaving. I cannot wait for the gifs.

Date: 2013-08-12 06:21 pm (UTC)Yes, they were all acting drunk. Which is weird. I'm sure far more vampires were wandering about looking stoned than drank Bill's blood. How come they could go out in the sun too?

I did find the bit with Dr Woodlark (or whatever his name was) a bit squicky, but yes, otherwise there were some very funny bits there.
And I know what you mean about the flashbacks. I could have done without most of them.
In fact, I found the funeral scenes dragged for me sometimes. I kept wanting to see what was happening with the vampires.

Date: 2013-08-12 10:59 pm (UTC)I am always ready for the show to be gruesome, but Lord have mercy! That scene of the groin ripping, And all the body parts laying around. Yikes!
Really looking forward to next week!

Date: 2013-08-12 11:30 pm (UTC)I've seen some people speculate that drinking Warlow's blood, even through a proxy, means the vampires become daywalkers. Which... I don't quite get. But they made the argument that if any fairy would do, then what makes Warlow's blood special.

Date: 2013-08-13 12:47 am (UTC)Not sure about the next episode, but I have a feeling Warlow will be killed (it seemed to me they were really trying to set up a Sookie/Alcide thing for next season.) I also think they might pare down the vamps and somehow get rid of their day-walking ability. This is all just speculation based on them saying they are going to focus more on Bon Temps next season.
I liked this season mostly, although it did drag in places. To me, it was Eric's show this year. He showed the most range and had the best (funniest and sexiest) lines. Interestingly, I also think it was a good year for Jason. I was not a fan of Ben; only liked him marginally better as Warlow, found Alcide and the wolves boring as hell, glad Sookie (in some ways) grew a pair, and glad that Steve Newlan is dead.

Date: 2013-08-13 10:01 am (UTC)I agree with all this, though it wouldn't have bothered me if creepy Violet had gone up in flames. I think Eric will be back too - at least in the finale. After that, I honestly don't know. He may possibly be being set up as a future antagonist to Bill and the assimilation movement. Of course, Eric never really believed in that anyway, but maybe he'll become more proactive.
If so, I'm sorry about it, as I enjoyed the Bill/Eric relationship. I'm also puzzled as to the way Eric/Sookie has been dealt with this season. Okay, so I'm not a 'shipper, not really. But their last personal interaction was Sookie staking Bill for Eric's sake, then Eric giving her back her house and her disinviting him from it, which he seemed to accept. Maybe that was meant to bookend their relationship? If so, it was quite well done, and I wouldn't like to see them be antagonists at a later date.
I dunno.

Date: 2013-08-13 10:04 am (UTC)Yes, me too. Enough to go hunting rumours (of which there are plenty) on the internet about Alexander Skarsgard leaving the show. :(
I agree about them setting up Sookie/Alcide. It looked that way to me too. I also agree that the vamps won't keep their daywalking ability. The effect of Warlow's blood is bound to wear off at some point, the way Sookie's fairy godmother's blood wore off Eric in season 4. Unless Warlow being a vampire as well makes a difference?

Yes. Jason is a complete sweetheart.
