Yet another good episode of Ripper Street last night.

Slight spoilers behind cut.

Okay, so the premise was a little convoluted (to say the least), but kudos to the show for once again taking subject matter - in this case the struggle for Irish independence- which had the potential to be overly worthy in an anachronistic way, or just all round cringe-inducing - and doing something interesting and layered with it.

They also managed to fit in an educational bit about the early electricity industry (AC/DC. Heh!), ramp up the mystery surrounding the absence of Emily Reid (I still think she's been committed to some horrible mental institution), point out the shameless (because no one thought anything of it) use of violence and intimidation by the police, with even our hero DI Reid, if not exactly condoning it, still being reliant on it (he doesn't send Drake off to catch suspects thinking he's going to ask them nicely, after all), and flesh-out Detective Sergeant Flight's character wonderfully.

Great stuff.

Not to mention that Damian Moloney is really rather pretty...

Series 2 is just as good as Series 1 for me, I've really enjoyed all the episodes so far.
