Forgot to say anything about Ripper Street this week.

In fact, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to watch it at all, since it started off with both the continuity bloke, and a message on screen at the beginning of the program stating that it contained some very violent scenes that some people might find upsetting.

What, worse even than usual, I thought?

More behind cut with spoilers for Ripper Street season 2 and The Good Wife up to the end of season 4.

Okay, it's a myth (that apparently won't die) that every episode of Ripper Street features the horrific murders of prostitutes, but it is quite a violent program - about at my tolerance limit, in fact, and sometimes over it. And there were indeed some scenes in this episode where I couldn't watch, notably the scene at the end, where the evil banker had his throat cut. But otherwise, it wasn't noticeably worse than usual.

A sad episode, though. I think Homer Jackson and Long Susan are finished. I don't see their marriage coming back from this, and have a horrible feeling that she's going to capitulate to Silas Duggan's demands. I suppose her options are very limited, but I think if I were her, I might throw myself on my father's mercy (Susan's father featured in one of the best episodes of season 1, not a nice man at all), as being slightly better than Duggan's mercy (which I'm sure doesn't exist at all).

As for Homer Jackson, I just don't know where he goes from here. The same is true of Inspector Reid and Miss Cobden. He won't divorce (still think Mrs R is banged up in an asylum somewhere), she won't be his mistress. What are they going to do?

Anyway, the central story about the couriers/rent boys was very well done, I think. This continues (IMO) to be one of the best shows on TV.

Re: The Good Wife, while I was on my own last week I finished watching season 4. Now, when they start showing season 5 over here, I can watch it on the broadcast date, which is good. I loved all the ups and downs in season 4 (though admittedly saw that last scene -where Alicia calls Cary, but it's set up to seem like she's calling Will - coming a mile off). Season 5 must seem almost like a reboot of the show, with Alicia and Cary as rivals to Lockhart Gardner. Can't wait to see it.

I suppose it's too much to hope that's the last we'll see of Alicia/Will? Probably. I know he's a git, but I find Peter Florrick way more interesting as a partner for Alicia than Will, though of course, in the back of my mind, I'm always worried he'll betray Alicia again. I hope not, though.

As for the Kalinda/Nick stuff, it died a sudden death, which I wanted, but it didn't die quite enough. As we didn't see Kalinda bury the guy under a motorway, it's still possible he'll come back, I suppose. :gloom:

Finally, I watched The Five(ish) Doctors last night. Really, really loved it. Way more enjoyable than the 50th Anniversary Special, IMO.
