Brief Word on Ripper Street Final Ep
Dec. 16th, 2013 10:11 pmWell, it's the final ep for now. Hoping beyond hope that something will come of the possible deal with LoveFilm!
Brilliant, brilliant finale. If that really is it, which I still hope it isn't, at least it was a better way to leave things than the way The Hour ended.
The petition (which, if you haven't signed it, please could you?) now has over 20,000 signatures. I don't know if it'll do any good, but it should.
And not a single continuity announcement, at beginning or end of the show, from the BBC. I'm telling myself the reason for this is because they know how stupid they've been. But I doubt it.
Idiots!

Date: 2013-12-17 05:46 pm (UTC)I would still like to see what Reid does next, though. He discovered in the previous episode that he can't do his job without Drake, but Drake now finds his job abhorrent. Somehow, Reid has to find a better way of being a policeman.
There's still a lot they could do but if it does come to nothing - well, at least it wasn't like the end of The Hour.

Date: 2013-12-17 07:03 pm (UTC)The one I was least convinced by was Rose, mainly because her singing was so dreadful, but I agree we are intended to believe she will have a career. Long Susan got a brilliant ending, I think. And I can believe in the hope of redemption for Flight. I'm very unclear about where Drake will go next and so he is the most open ended. Jackson I assume will just drift along, but that is ok in his case.

Date: 2013-12-18 05:52 pm (UTC)The thing that was interesting about Reid's fall and realisation in this episode is that he is in fact a very moral man. He's always found the method of policing he's had to employ repugnant, and he's always cared about Sergeant Drake, yet he's never made the connection between asking Drake to do what Drake used to do and the effect it must be having on him. And suddenly he finds himself in the awful position of needing Drake to be what he used to be, because he can't see any other way of dealing with Shine except the old way, while knowing that Drake sincerely doesn't want to be that man any more. And then he lets himself be completely carried away by his hatred.
It was never a case of being blind to what he was doing. Oh, anyway. I just want to know what he does next. I also want to know what's happened to Emily Reid. If what's happened to her didn't matter, they would have just killed the character off offscreen somewhere.

I don't agree her singing was dreadful - not this week anyway. Definitely good enough for a music hall career.
