I've just been to see the NTLive screening of War Horse.

:Cries inconsolably:

Oh, I knew from the get go that I would NEVER see that movie. And you went in public?

You are brave.

Hugs. I started to watch the movie and had to stop before anything bad happened. I knew I'd have to be in a very strong place to see the horses suffering (never mind the humans) and I just wasn't ready for it. Perhaps if I line up a few whiskies, I'll be able to try again as I am interested. Just can't take animal suffering.

I know I can't watch it.

I once tried to read a book about a coal mine horse for my two kids who were then 6 and 7 years old, and despite numerous attempts, I never did manage to finish the story as I started crying every time, I tried. The worst thing is that this being a school library book, twice! my apparently evil daughter of 6 boroughed that particular book, because she thought it was fascinating to study me and see how long it would take this time around, before mummy started bowling her eyes out again.

It's incredibly moving isn't it. The entire things is just extraordinary to watch and the puppets are beyond amazing.

It was absolutely amazing - those puppets were so realistic I shut my eyes on a couple of occasions because I couldn't bear what was happening to the poor horses.

The girls both said they preferred the film (which I haven't seen), I'm attributing that to an age thing.

I want to go again.

(The audience demographic was completely different to the Coriolanus, and NT Live have said it's had the largest audience of all the plays they've broadcast so far - 155,000 people!)

I watched it here in Germany, which unfortunately meant that the German spoken by the actors led to a fair amount of giggling. The accents weren't even all that bad but some people simply had no manners. :-/
In the end most everybody cried though and I remembered why I never reread Watership Down, which had me sobbing as well.

I did think about going to see this, but knew it would be too upsetting. It looks amazing, though, from what little I've seen!

Well, not all-out sobbing but pretty much everybody around me kept moving their hands to their face surreptitiously, as did I. God, they did an amazing job with those horses!

GODDAMN!

I meant to go see that and I completely forgot about it. It sounds amazing.

I'm glad it was good, if sad. The film is pants but I haven't heard anyone who has seen the stage version who didn't love it and cry like a baby. I haven't quite got the courage to go myself.

The Hiddleston factor is negligible cos he's only in it for five minutes.
