Ha-allelujah!
May. 26th, 2016 08:57 amWith thanks to
petzipellepingo.
The Americans has been renewed for two final seasons.
So pleased. The best show on TV by a million miles, and if there's story there to be told (and I know the creators have one) then you want them to be able to tell it and not have to live with Babylon 5 year on year levels of uncertainty.
Hoorah!

Date: 2016-05-27 08:33 am (UTC)Is it a show you've watched yourself at all? If not, I highly recommend it.

Date: 2016-05-27 08:35 am (UTC)Also, your election was very scary (though obviously way more so for you), I'm glad it went the way it did.

Date: 2016-05-27 08:36 am (UTC)I've been meaning to make a post about the show for ages (so many posts I've been meaning to make and haven't), but I guess I'll wait till I'm all caught up. Only got as far as ep 8.

Date: 2016-05-27 08:51 am (UTC)Not being around to watch it 'by other means' was actually a bit of a sticking point for me in planning that big holiday. However, my daughter kindly did it for me for the first 6 eps. I'm still playing catch-up, though. Watched ep 8 just yesterday.

Date: 2016-05-27 09:11 am (UTC)But for now I try to keep my mood up. Van der Bellen is an excellent man and it will be very good to have him around for six years. Much better than the usual brand of politician we have.
And the new chancellor (akin to PM) is looking no half bad. He actually says intelligent things and might be competent and not too focused on his own career. I hope for the best.

Date: 2016-05-31 11:02 am (UTC)I'm sure the writers know how it will end, and knowing how much longer they have enables them to plan how to reach that end in a satisfactory way that's true to the show so far. So it's good news all round.
Probably wrong of me, but I'm rather hoping the Jenningses get away with it.

Date: 2016-05-31 01:08 pm (UTC)I did just read an article about the real Russian spies that inspired the tv series and they ended up extradited to Russia WITH THEIR KIDS. Who were just like Paige and ... omg I forgot his name... anyway, they were extradited to Russia and, of course, didn't speak a word of Russian or understand Russian culture and they are still trying to get back to the U.S. or even Canada but neither country will have them.

Date: 2016-05-31 01:44 pm (UTC)Of course, it's not impossible that they could all (Martha, Paige and Henry) learn to speak Russian and settle down, but it's a tall order, especially when it's in very traumatic circumstances. This is even more true in Martha's case, I think, and she, for one, would never be allowed back in to the US.
