Game of Thrones Season 6 Ep 7
Jun. 6th, 2016 05:53 pmJust watched this and...
... again you could have knocked me down with a feather. I really did think the Hound was dead. Quite nice to see him, even if his segment of the episode was such a downer - in which the only people we've so far met in the show to renounce violence as the answer to everything all get violently murdered. Great.
Anyone else have the slightest clue what they were building there? Was it some sort of mini castle?
Actually, large chunks of this episode were quite depressing. Notably every scene Jon Snow was in, if only because his usual woebegone expression seems to have been turned up to eleven since he came back from the dead. I wonder what he'll do when he finds out Sansa kept information from him - which he surely will find out if Littlefinger and the knights of the Vale turn up and say she sent for them.
I'm still really pissed off with Littlefinger for poisoning their reunion.
But there were some enjoyable scenes, notably Ser Davos being such a sweetie in his conversation with little Lady Mormont - which reminds me that he still doesn't know what happened to Shireen, and I'm not sure there's anyone left except Melisandre who could tell him, because now I think about it, I'm pretty sure Brienne and Podric turned up later.
Also enjoyable was Margaery contriving to let her grandmother know that she's bluffing. Yay! Margaery! I'm glad everyone was right about her. Best scene of all, though, was Granny Tyrell telling Cersei a few home truths. Also, also, even though he's a total bastard, and, the way I see it, on the wrong side, it's always nice to see Bronn.
I'm rooting for Theon and Yara now. I hope they get to Dany before their uncle Urine (or whatever his name is). And I'm rooting for Arya to get the Waif back some day. I'm sick of her nasty, self-righteous little face with its pretty much permanent sneer (the Waif's that is, not Arya's).
Not a lot else to say. Except that when Ian McShane's character (whose name I didn't catch) was telling his life story, one of the extras was trying way too hard to act and someone should tell him not to do it. And it begins to look like every single Brit/Irish thesp (who is not Tom Hiddleston, Eddie Redmayne or Benedict Cumberbatch) in existence has had a part in this show now. Two new ones in this episode alone. They're just coming out of the woodwork.
Only three episodes to go. It looks depressingly less and less likely that we're going to get shut of Ramsey Bolton (or Walder Frey) this season. :(
ETA: I have decided that the only reason that bit where Melisandre cut off some of Jon's hair was included, btw, is so Jon could have a man-bun.

IKR? No wonder people kept turning him down. Who would want to go to war together with someone who looks like he's already weeping over the outcome?
And I'm rooting for Arya to get the Waif back some day.
Yep. Though Arya really didn't make it hard for her, did she? If you know you're being hunted by someone who can change their face, don't just smile and wait when random strangers come up to you in the street.
I did like Yara's peptalk to Theon. That's two Theon appearances in a row now that I haven't wanted him to drop dead. What even is happening.
But yay for The Hound, Margaery, Lady Tyrell, Bronn and the Blackfish. I'm starting to wonder if the show has hit their peak of killing people off and will now spend the remaining 2 1/2 seasons bringing them back again. The series finale will end with Eddard Stark being elected king and goodness and righteousness prevailing. Yep.

Date: 2016-06-06 05:31 pm (UTC)Sad story with Ian Mcshane, but good.
I loved loved loved Margaery and her grandmother. Those two rule!
I think Arya might have set the Waif up. She knew the faceless man act internationally, only if the think she's dead, she has a chance to escape. On the other hand, she looked very badly hurt and not much like it went according to plan.

Date: 2016-06-06 06:26 pm (UTC)Heh! I'm fairly sure that won't happen, but it would be awesome if it did.
Did Arya actually know the Faceless lot were after her? I can't remember if Jaquen said what would happen if she failed to kill the actress. Either way, she should know better. She's a Stark. People want to kill her just because. ;)

I agree - and is it just me, or is the High Sparrow a little bit in love with Margaery now? If so, creepy, but I expect it's all part of her masterplan.
I hope Granny Tyrell got away okay.

Date: 2016-06-07 12:24 am (UTC)I was right (for once) about Margaery playing a game. And I think her grandmother is the slyest fox around. The question is, is Tommen in on it? I assume he must be because he changed so fast. And I agree with you that the High Sparrow is infatuated with Margaery. I'm thinking this will be his trap.
Three episodes? And then, what, we have to wait another year? This is not right.

Date: 2016-06-07 03:22 am (UTC)Yes, as I recall, Brienne and Podric turned up after Shireen died. But Melisandre knows, and so do any of the soldiers who deserted (which they said at least half did) in the night after Shireen's burning. That's going to come out eventually, I bet.
The Tyrell women are always wonderful. I'm not sure of Margaery's endgame, but I have faith that it is clever and glorious. As we saw when Joffrey was alive, she is very good at handling dangerous, crazy men that no one else can manage.

Date: 2016-06-07 09:00 am (UTC)Quite true - which could be someone's (not mine, I don't do crossovers) cue to write a BtVS season 6/GoT season 6 crossover. Something to do with the 6s, clearly.
And I agree with you that the High Sparrow is infatuated with Margaery. I'm thinking this will be his trap.
Me too. He's obviously turned on by her wearing that modest outfit, and they're having conversations about sex now (that leave you wanting to punch the High Sparrow in the face even harder). He just doesn't seem to realise how clever she is. You'd think that awful old dragon with the bell would see through her, but so far she doesn't seem to have. Maybe she's just another cruel, stupid character like so many in this story.

I know. It's ridiculous. Especially as this season was a bit slow to get going.

Date: 2016-06-07 09:04 am (UTC)Ah, okay. I didn't really take that on board.
I'm sure you're right that what Melisandre/Stannis did will come out eventually somehow, and when it does we're going to see a very different side to Ser Davos.

IMO, she is subtly seducing the High Sparrow. That modest wear she's taken to wearing, and all the sighing about how she doesn't like sex now. She's turned herself into his ideal woman. It's kind of creepy, but I'm pretty certain she can turn the tables on him in the end.

Date: 2016-06-07 11:50 am (UTC)I did think the whole Arya scene was strange, so maybe one of those theories is true; who knows.
If, Rikon comes out in one piece, maybe they could marry him to that fierce little queen. I liked her. I did think introducing her kind of brought some storylines together considering she is related to Jorah.
I am quite worried about that letter that Sansa wrote and whether she is putting trust in the wrong person again...
So glad Margeory is pretending, not sure about Tom...We should not be surprised that she is seducing the Sparrow; it is what she has been trained her whole life to do; be whatever the chosen target wants. She would make a good assassin.

Date: 2016-06-07 06:31 pm (UTC)I wonder if Cersei would see through it? Hopefully, they won't meet, because I can just see her being vindictive enough to rat on Margaery, given that she created this whole mess (as Granny Tyrell pointed out) because she was jealous of Margaery's influence on Tommen.

I'm worried about the letter too, but I don't think Sansa is putting her trust in Littlefinger. She just feels they have no option but to ask for his help. Mind you, even if he does turn up, he'll probably betray her and change sides at the last minute. I still can't really work out why he just handed her over to the Boltons. I thought he wanted her for himself.

Date: 2016-06-08 09:22 am (UTC)Is Jaquen in the habit of walking around with his hands behind his back? I did think the way Arya was walking in that scene was a little OOC.

Date: 2016-06-08 09:40 am (UTC)I did too. What I don't get is why they would have that scene of Arya (or "Arya") staggering in shock through the streets afterwards if it's not her. Why would Jaqen, if it's him, keep up the charade? If it's only to fool the TV audience, that seems rather clumsy.
Then again, no more clumsy than the Waif completely botching an easy assassination...
