Not really a whinge, actually. Or not much.
More behind cut with slight spoilers for Taboo and The Halcyon
I've just read through the draft of my story for
noel_of_spike that I didn't manage to finish in time, and it's...not too bad, actually. I think I can see what I have to do to make it postable, the main thing being, to write another entire scene, which will probably be quite long. Now, all I have to do is to make myself start writing it.
It's not going to happen today, I'm afraid. ;)
Apart from finishing this story, which doesn't have a name yet, the other thing I really want to achieve fic-writing wise this year, is to finally finish the Spike/Angel story I say every year I want to finish, but have so far ended up not finishing. I really hope I do it this time. Don't want to be saying this again this time next year. I'd also like to finish revising Family Reunion (an old story of mine from 2006 or so, for those of you not familiar with it) and post it to Archive of Our Own. I'm still quite gun-shy about putting this story out there, have to say, but I think it's (potentially) good enough to make it worth the effort. All my other old stories that I haven't posted to A03 yet will stay right where they are, locked away on my evil twin's LJ, but Family Reunion, despite being a horror story, seems to me a little more mainstream.
In TV news more recent than my post of the other day, I watched the first episode of Taboo on the BBC last Saturday. It was utterly daft and ridiculous (where the hell did our brooding hero get his pretty white horse from, for instance?), but I enjoyed it enormously. I've also watched the first two episodes of The Halcyon, ITV's new war time drama about a grand London hotel and the people who own/stay/work in it. So far I like it, though I'd prefer less of the soap opera stuff and more political-type shenanigans. It doesn't hurt that one of the RAF pilots (not a main character) is a Sikh. Reminds me of every Sikhs' favourite war movie 633 Squadron, which features a Sikh pilot (though unlike the one in The Halcyon, he's not played by a Sikh. But then the same film features George Chakiris as the world's most unlikely Norwegian. ;)
From the look of it, it's snowing over in Wales. :Shiver:

This sums up my feeling about many a show. So few shows do politics at all well, which is rather remarkable given that everyone understands it on a personal level.
Good luck with the writing! It always helps when you can see a way through.

I'm looking forward to your new fic, when you finish it, and also hope you get a chance to finish your Spike/Angel story.

Date: 2017-01-12 06:14 pm (UTC)I'm sure. It's a personal choice really. I just made a decision to keep my kinkier stuff locked down.
With Family Reunion, there are certain things in it I just want to clarify and tidy up before I post it. But yes, I agree it should go on A03 - and hopefully, the version I post on there will be better than the original.
I managed to write about 500 words of this new scene today. A bit wading through treacle, but hopefully I'll get there in the end.
