I'm now four episodes into season 2 of The Man in the High Castle, but after yesterday I'm not sure I feel like watching any more of a drama in which most of the US is ruled by Nazis. :(
It's not so much that I believe Trump himself is a Nazi - more like a self-obsessed vainglorious narcissist. But that neo-Nazis are rejoicing over his being elected tells you all you need to know really.
I'm afraid he's also a wee bit sociopathic. And he's doing things that..ahem, are fascist. He wanted a full military parade with missiles, the military refused. And his nominations for cabinet positions are enough to give me nightmares...
Yes, he's a dictator in the making. The thing that's alarming to me isn't Trump himself though, it's the fact that so much of the country has put Republicans in power, but not the typical Republicans from the 20th century but idiotic fanatics.
One thing a friend has pointed out is that while people say that 83% of this group voted for him, or 64% of this other group, but in reality only about 19% of the population voted for him. It's still too many, but it's not nearly a majority of anything, let alone voters.

Yes, the same is true of Brexit. Yes, a large number of people did vote, but an awful lot didn't bother, and Leave won by such a small margin. In fact, Farage and co were very loudly saying before the vote that if Remain won by such a small margin the referendum should be re-run.
So anyway, I guess Democrats need to win back the swing states, or that 19% are going to hold the majority hostage forever.
I suspect we are going to get a President Pence before these 4 years are up for one reason or another. However, as Mike and I were discussing yesterday, it doesn't really matter if Pence is president. He'll be doing most of the governing anyway and he's a career politician. If Trump is out we will be left with the same extreme right government we're going to get regardless. The difference is we won't have an angry muppet sucking away attention from what's actually important.
