Lucifer season 2 episode 12
Jan. 24th, 2017 01:09 pmWatched this today.
Spoilers behind cut.
Still enjoying the hell out of this show, partly (I guess) because the whole thing is pure escapism from start to finish.
But anyway...
Seems Lucifer's mum really is just evil. I hadn't understood her dastardly plan until this episode. I really thought she was (rather ineptly) just trying to get Lucifer and Chloe together because she thought (for some unexplained reason) that if they were a couple it would be easier for her to get heaven back. Now, I'm inclined to think she's being conflated with Lilith in the comics and just wants revenge on 'Dad', and she doesn't care who, or what she destroys to get it. And I don't think it's just 'Dad' she wants revenge on either.
Because basically revealing the fact that Chloe was 'planted' by 'Dad' just when Lucifer had come to accept that what he felt for Chloe and what Chloe felt for him was real, was the equivalent of sticking a knife in his heart and twisting it. I know Maze realised that, and I'm pretty sure 'Mum' understood it herself. She says she would never hurt Lucifer, but she has, and I can't believe it wasn't deliberate.
She must also know now that her revelation will turn Lucifer against Amenadiel again, (and quite rightly when he finds out Amenadiel was in cahoots with her), so I'm beginning to think she wants revenge on Amenadiel too. If I'm remembering correctly, Amenadiel was the one who carried her to hell, on 'Dad's orders, and of course Lucifer is the one who kept her there.
I dunno. I'd still like to believe she's not that malicious because I enjoy the character's Anya-like qualities so much, but probably Mazikeen's been right about her all along. Oh well.
The procedural stuff was okay again. It's never the most interesting bit for me. However, Dr Carlyle was a good villain (in a narcissistic, psychotic kind of way), and there were again some great scenes scattered throughout the episode - 'Mum' and Dr Linda, Lucifer and the girls at the party, Lucifer and Dan (those two are hilarious together), Lucifer saving Dr Carlyle's victims by making Chloe go away, every scene with Maze in, especially her trying to save Lucifer pain by attempting to drag him away before 'Mum' could drop her bombshell etc, etc.
As for Lucifer and Chloe, I do think that Tom Ellis and Lauren German have chemistry, but I still think they looked a little awkward in the (dream) sex scene, and the more I think about it, the more I actually quite like that. If last week's episode told us anything about Lucifer, it's that it's not sex he craves (he can have that whenever he wants, with whoever he wants), it's intimacy. And sex is only a part of it. Lucifer and Chloe have almost reached that point, but not quite. And of course 'Mum' has now thrown a giant spanner in the works.
If Show!Lucifer was Comics!Lucifer, the revelation that his father 'planted' Chloe in his way would be enough to make him turn his back on her forever more. I doubt Show!Lucifer will do that, but I do foresee him partially falling into 'Mum's' trap by saving Chloe's life (I'm pretty sure he'll do that) and then walking away from her at the end of the next episode.
Possibly without a word of explanation. Though I wish he would explain, because really, unless Chloe can accept the real Lucifer (the way Dr Linda has), that true intimacy is always going to escape them.
I'm also expecting a Lucifer/Amenadiel showdown in episode 13, and hoping very much that Lucifer doesn't turn on Maze too, because it would be very unjust indeed.
