I know I'm months (possibly a whole year?) behind everyone, but I got bogged down in season 6 and gave up on the show for a bit. Then other stuff happened. But anyway, I've had a little time to myself the last few days so I've powered on through and watched the final season of The Good Wife.

Hmm.

Actually, I'd been really enjoying it until the final episode. All the draggy stuff that Kalinda's storyline sadly devolved into in the previous couple of seasons was gone, and in other ways it was back to basics- Alicia having issues (like you wouldn't believe) with her husband and doing law stuff.

Okay, there were still irritations along the way - notably all the fighting between Diane, Cary and David Lee, which was ultimately pretty pointless - but generally speaking the season worked well for me. I liked the new characters introduced - Lucca and Jason Crouse in particular - and was glad to see other storylines/characters brought full-circle - though I did prefer the part of the season where Alicia and Lucca were working out of Alicia's apartment with Grace doing the admin to the latter part where they were 'back in the fold,' as it were.

However- and I suspect those of you who watched it can guess what I'm going to say - I did not like the last episode. Or the last scene of the last episode. Okay, it didn't bother me that Alicia was still going through the motions supporting Peter because she was genuinely in a place where what he'd done didn't hurt her any more and they could actually be friends. I liked that Peter accepted it and really seemed to understand that he'd brought his downfall on himself (even though he hadn't done what he'd been accused of - well, I don't think he had). What I did not like was that Jason did the big, scaredy runaway and that Alicia's last interaction in the show with Diane was a horrible one.

That, I suppose, was down to them setting up the sequel, The Good Fight, which I hope to get around to watching soon, but it was a pretty harsh way, I thought, to end Alicia's story after seven seasons. Her face at the very end was supposed to show us she was dealing with it, and with the loss of Jason, and would bounce back again, I suppose, but I didn't like it (and I never even liked Alicia that much).

Anyway, I have seen worse series finales (BSG, for instance), and I'm not going to let this last scene spoil what has been a really good series for me. Seven years of well-written (mostly), well-acted grown-up telly, with great characters (the female characters in particular), which I felt taught me stuff.

Highly recommended.

One the whole, I adored The Good Wife for a variety of reasons, including those above, AND I absolutely hated the way it resolved in its finale.(Though less than I hated the finale of St. Elsewhere, if you're familiar with it).

However, The Good Fight carries over the same flavor palette as the original series, and I'm sure you will love it when you get a chance.

So much goodness to look forward to. **hugs**
