If my speculation about the final scene in the new Lucifer season 3 trailer is correct...
...and Lucifer does find that his attempts to show Chloe his true face don't work, just like his desire powers don't work on her and he's human and vulnerable around her, I've realised that this will make him in his own eyes vis-a-vis Chloe the thing he despises most - a liar.
All along, he's insisted to her that he's never lied to her (though he's not always told her the whole truth, of course, particularly about his mother). In fact, he's been quite open about who he is but, after a slight wobble in season 1 when she ended up shooting him, and another at the beginning of season 2, where she eventually decided to just stop thinking about it, it seemed, she just flat-out doesn't believe him.
Well, you wouldn't, would you?
However, he's now decided he has to not only tell her the truth but also show her, the way he did Dr Linda, and if he finds out he can't and she still doesn't believe him, for a start that puts their relationship on a permanent false footing, and for another she'll carry on thinking that, if he's not a liar, then he's definitely delusional. In other words, his attempt to be completely open and honest will fail miserably and brand him one of the above in Chloe's eyes forever.
Is this 'Dad' punishing Lucifer again, because it sure comes across that way to me?
I'm quite grouchy about Tom Welling being added to the cast again today, I find. I think the cast of this show is big enough already, especially with Tricia Helfer sticking around as Charlotte, and some people already aren't getting enough to do (Amenadiel, for instance). I don't want them being squeezed out any more for some boring, bland, made-in-a-factory so-called 'hunk,' who I personally don't find the least bit attractive, just so there can be an equally boring, bland made-in-a-factory love triangle.
The eternal whinge of the too-invested fan, who doesn't want 'them' tinkering with something they love (while knowing quite well that 'they' created the thing they love and can do what they damn well want with it. ;)
ETA: Yesterday I said that Lucifer not being able to use his angelic superpowers around Chloe was being shown inconsistently, since he's demonstrated his supernatural strength around her plenty of times. Then I remembered that in the first episode of season 2, he was unable to fight off the murderer because Chloe was standing nearby, and now I can't remember if he ever did anything supernatural around her at all in season 2. Hmm.
