Well, that was fun.

Spoilers behind cut, including references to the comics.

Lovely to see Maze back, even if it is in an episode filmed months ago (though hopefully, she'll be back for real in episode 4 next week). Same with Trixie (likewise).

This was a really fun character-centric episode, I thought, plus it was nice to catch up with the building manager from the BtVS season 5 episode, The Replacement (you know, the one who hits on Cool!Xander?), as trigger-happy gunwoman Joan, who I would never have recognised if it weren't that she still wears her hair exactly the same way. ;)

The plot - Maze hunting down the charming fugitive (who actually was quite charming, I thought) who turns out to be innocent - was great, though my favourite scene was Maze and the poor desk clerk. Okay, I don't usually approve of sexual intimidation and blackmail, but it was just funny seeing the guy being all Canadian (or more like, an American's idea of a Canadian - ie. unfailingly polite no matter what the situation) in response to Maze's threats. Reminded me of Due South.

Actually, I loved the scene where Maze asks Linda for advice on how to deal with gunshot wounds too. Laughed out loud at that one.

All the Maze/Trixie stuff was great, of course, and I loved that Lucifer and Chloe were worried about Maze (even though Lucifer tried very hard to pretend he wasn't). Loved even more that they were worried for Canada with Maze in it. Made the scene at the end where they, along with Linda, were gathered as a family (though Lucifer was kind of the bewildered outsider), even better.

And of course I like that they managed to tie the episode into an ongoing plot line, with Rivers warning Maze that she's on the list of some really bad people now, and the filing cabinet scene at the end with files on Amenadiel, Lucifer etc. It'll probably turn out that Lieutenant Herrera was in the pay of the Sinnerman.

Another good thing about this episode of course is no Lieutenant Pierce. If anything's going to ruin this show for me it'll be that character. As I've said before, I get why Welling was cast, but at the moment it feels like his inclusion has thrown the show out of whack slightly. Hopefully, once Maze comes back for real and Charlotte puts in an appearance (though I don't know how that will work out yet either now she's not 'Mum') that feeling will lessen.

Trivial stuff (well, it's all trivial, I know): Maze eating Dan's pudding. ;) I need an icon of that.

I'll be away next week so no Lucifer for me until Thursday at the earliest. Oh well.

ETA: I just read an interview with Lesley-Ann Brandt about her experiences of motherhood and working on the show and she says that Maze will not be back till episode 6. Oh well.

ETA 2: I've been reading the AV Club review of the episode, and with regard to the filing cabinet scene at the end, they very helpfully stated whose names were on all the files. I've watched the scene several times on YouTube and for the life of me could only make out three of the five. They were: Lucifer Morningstar, Amenadiel/Dr Canaan and Charlotte Richards. The other two, apparently, were Mazikeen of the Lilim and...Gaudium.

That name will mean nothing to people who haven't read the comics, of course, but since the name on the file might well just be one of these occasional shout-outs to the comics (like Maze's 'Normal Consciousness Will Be Resumed' t-shirt in season 2) that the show goes in for rather than a sign that a show version of Gaudium is going to be introduced, I doubt it's at all spoilery to say that in the comics Gaudium is a fallen cherub. He and his sister Spera are two of my favourite characters in the comics. If only one of them turned up in the show I'd be a bit disappointed actually (and I'm struggling to think how the show could do the whole 'grounded' thing with them at all).

Also, if Sinnerman does turn out to be another fallen angel, there's one from the comics who is plenty unpleasant enough - Sandalphon.

Don't think they'll go there, though.

Thank you! I knew I recognised her but couldn't begin to place her. I suspect I have seen her in some other show or shows since though. Maybe Supernatural.

Maze eating Dan's pudding. ;)

Oh yes! :D I bet this episode was originally meant to air just after one where Dan complains about someone pinching his pudding, which would have made it even funnier.

she says that Maze will not be back till episode 6. Oh well.
:(
Although the poor woman is obviously entitled to a decent maternity leave, so I shall try not to resent it.

she came back to work when the baby was only six weeks old, which I don't think is really long enough.

:(

No, it was meant to be episode 19, so how it would have worked with Lucifer getting his wings back in the previous episode, I have no idea.

Are you absolutely positive the moved four were intended to just follow on from episode 2.18? It would surely make more sense if they had been intended for an episode or two earlier before moving into the final couple to end the season.

They were: Lucifer Morningstar, Amenadiel/Dr Canaan and Charlotte Richards. The other two, apparently, were Mazikeen of the Lilim and...Gaudium.

All very interesting. I'd intended to go back and freeze frame to read them, so thanks for saving me the bother. It looks as if the Sinnerman or Pierce or whoever it is really is just investigating the supernatural people.

Maybe Gaudium is the latest angel following in Uriel and Amenadiel's flight path, and is the one who keeps giving Lucifer his wings back.

I will be surprised if we get more than 18 episodes this season.

In some hierarchies Cherubim are much higher than Archangels so who knows what will happen :D

I don't know how these things work, but they might not be obligated to make all the episodes he is contracted for. I think shows might like to keep one contracted extra episode in hand so they have the option to bring the character back for a cameo or have them hang over and then remove them in the première of the next season - it gives them more writing choices.

In some hierarchies Cherubim are much higher than Archangels so who knows what will happen :D

Not in the comics one - and though I don't expect the question ever to arise in the show, if it did, I doubt they would invent a whole new hierarchy rather than using one ready to hand.

I just googled it, and apparently there is some weird difference between archangels (lowercase) and Archangels (capitalised). Apparently Gabriel, Michael and so forth - and presumably Lucifer - get the capital letter and are the highest ranking of the lot and above even cherubim and seraphim, and that is different to ordinary archangels, which are just the second lowest ranking order of angels. It is all very confusing and I suggest a heavenly committee to simplify and clarify the whole system.

I loved this episode! I wonder if the innocent murderer will whow up again? And it made it very obvious how important Maize is for the dynamics in this show.

BtVS season 5 episode, The Replacement (you know, the one who hits on Cool!Xander?), as trigger-happy gunwoman Joan

Wow, I would never have remembered that. It took me a while to remember when she had appeared earlier in this episode ;)

Actually, I loved the scene where Maze asks Linda for advice on how to deal with gunshot wounds too.

Afraid I started cringing at the point where she stuck her unsterilized finger in his abdomen, but I did like that Linda keeps reminding everyone she's not that kind of doctor. I am always annoyed by graduates of All Science U

Made the scene at the end where they, along with Linda, were gathered as a family (though Lucifer was kind of the bewildered outsider), even better.

Yes, that was a nice scene. I liked the episode -- I think Maze in general improves episodes now that she's been given her own storyline instead of just being an accessory for Lucifer to talk to.

Maze and Trixie can be cute but I still like Lucifer and Trixie best. It's the reason I enjoy the scenes with Tony Stark and Harley in Iron Man 3 -- adults dealing with kids in non-typical ways are refreshing.

I really liked the ep, more insight into Maze is always nice.

I totally didn't like that they made Dan stop by in Canada (wtf that made no sense at all!), just to have him there. That needed some serious plot contortion I didn't believe at all.

The other thing that made me cringe is Maze's blatant sexual harrassment. Maybe it's just the whole Weinstein thing bringing it more to the forefront now, or maybe it's just that I've become more sensitive to that kind of thing over the last years. It's especially jarring since they're taking such great care to never make Lucifer crowd someone and do anything with anyone against their will. The contrast is extreme - and, no, it's not okay because Maze is "a woman". Anyway, I hated that part. Not enough to hate the whole episode, but still, yuck.

All the rest was good. I thought the conman was really charming, and his character was fun to see play off Maze.

I also really liked Herrera. He would have been good as the chief, too. ;) He could act.

Oh, and I "accidentally" made an icon from that ep. Not the part you wanted, but it's all I have right now.
