Lucifer season 3 episode 12
Jan. 23rd, 2018 10:54 amA Lucifer episode that Tom Welling did not manage to spoil. Amazing!
More behind cut with spoilers.
As you know, I'm pretty uncritical about this show as a general rule. I've given the uneven season (mainly caused by the intrusion of fabulous - but not consistent with the current plot - standalone episodes, plus the fact that the plot is centred on Lucifer's and Chloe's work place making it difficult to fit the ensemble in every time, plus Lesley-Ann Brandt being on maternity leave and the show seriously lacking Maze) pretty much a free pass with only Tom Welling's boring, block-of-woodedness really getting to me.
However, this episode felt like a return to the good old days, in many ways. Stuff got explained, Ella wasn't OTT for plot reasons like she was in episode 11, Dan and Charlotte both had something meaningful to do, there was a Chloe/Maze flat mates scenes, if a short one, and wonder of wonders, Tom Welling managed not to throw me out of the story with his acting. Yay! All we need now is a way to connect the Maze/Linda/Amenadiel love triangle (which I do not like) to the main plot, and I think Amenadiel may be the way that happens, because I can't believe that in all his years as an angel he never came across Cain before.
Stuff got explained, I said. This is true, but there's still an awful lot of stuff that hasn't been explained, including what the hell the Sinnerman was up to. Did he discover some way for Cain to die, for instance, like an angel being the one to kill him? That sounds plausible, except that of course Lucifer did kill Cain and he just came back again (just as he did when shot near Chloe, so I was wrong about her making Cain vulnerable too).
Ooh, just had a thought. Maybe Chloe has to kill Cain?
We'll see. Plenty of mystery still there to sort out. Likewise the Lucifer's wings business. Okay, so Dad might have given Lucifer his wings back once, as a way of stopping Cain trying to kill himself, but then why make them come back over and over again? There's more going on there than Lucifer realises I'm pretty sure. And at last, I feel reasonably certain it'll all be explained in time (even if the eventual explanation is daft, as it probably will be).
The procedural stuff was pretty , but it usually is, and doesn't detract from the feeling I have that the show is back on track finally.
We'll see.
Should say that, just because I think the standalones have messed up the season slightly, doesn't mean I would have wanted to do without them. I think they've all been fabulous.
Also, if what showrunner Joe Henderson said on Twitter is true, seems the season will have 24 episodes. They are currently shooting episode 16. No idea how many more we get before another hiatus.
Also, also, I really wish Lucifer would use his wings occasionally. I know he's trying to pretend they're not there, but I'd like to see them now and again.
Must admit, I did laugh out loud in the scene where the doctor told Amenadiel he had chlamydia, though it's not really funny. Does this mean Amenadiel had to give a blood sample? I thought he said humans shouldn't get proof of divinity. Does this mean he's just human now?
