Effing Fox have only gone and cancelled Lucifer.

I hate them.

I pretty much hate the showrunners right now too. One of them just admitted on Twitter that they ended season 3 with a huge cliffhanger just so they wouldn't get cancelled.

Well that was stupid.

Never making the mistake of falling in love with a network show ever again.

ETA: To add insult to injury, I've just read that The Expanse has been cancelled too. Don't know how season 3 of that ends but bet it's on a cliffhanger too.

:Weeps:

I'm less surprised about B99 because there's been talk all season that this was its last. But I'm sad about all of these. What on earth does FOX have coming up next season that it's worth scrapping both of these?

With SyFy I'm also less surprised. Expanse is a big budget show and its ratings have never been good. It's a shame as this is a sprawling story and I'm sure it would still have a lot to explore :(

But it felt like it was talked about more & good reviews. But I could totally have missed info, I'm lagging as it is since I view it through Netflix here in Sweden.

I heard on Twitter that Fox was planning some big football segment to take over some timeslots. But idk any details or which slots..

OMG - the nausea! How they could cancel Lucifer is beyond the pale for me. I really, really loved the show... even with Welling. Tom Ellis is something special... and has lovely chemistry with just about everyone. Hmm... who does that remind you of, eh?

Bollocks to the whole lot of them at the network.

Suck! And I woke up to news of The Expanse, so I've been pissed at networks all day. But not as pissed as I'll be after I watch those cliffhangers.

Right there with you.

Damn, Fox.

And they renewed shows that I don't care that much about -- like The Gifted and The Resident (both of which I found frustrating to watch). And ...a lot of really bad situation comedies.

Ugh. The Expanse has been cancelled too? In that case, I may not bother to watch the rest...save myself the pain and frustration.

Note to self? I'm not investing in television series that can end in a cliff-hanger. First Sense8 last year (which thank god is getting a two-hour ending in June), and now Lucifer...

Makes me not want to watch next week's episode. I will. But I'm annoyed. And I completely agree with you in regards to the Show-runners. I had to restrain myself from saying - "you wrote a cliff-hanger to ensure the network wouldn't cancel you? Really? How arrogant and naive are you? Since when has that worked? The network doesn't care about fans, they just care about advertisers and the Neilsen ratings, you nitwitty writers."

Ugh. I hate them too.

Well with the big Disney sale, they kept the Sports and News networks, but sold the entertainment. Lucifer is owned by Warner Brothers, so that may be part of it. IDK. I find what they are cancelling and renewing odd. I'd have cancelled The Resident or The Gifted over Lucifer. Or Gotham for that matter, although it may be next.

Oh I am sorry.

As my mother always says when these things happen - there will be other shows.

Apparently B99 is produced in the NBC studios, so it was fairly easy for them... I think they're hoping the CW might take on Lucifer? Here's to hoping...

Apparently NBC saved B99 and now it has a limited 13 episode season for next year. Now we just need someone to come in and save Lucifer. (I actually think they were prepared for that necessity -- which is why they ended the show on a cliff-hanger and created a couple of stand-a-alones to shop to another network. TV Shows do that a lot now. And there are a lot of distribution venues, almost as many as there are television shows now. I have over a thousand listed on my Cable system, not including the Apps on streaming. So I think there may actually be more distribution channels than scripted television series.)

True... Although sometimes shows come back (look at Arrested Development.)

Also sorry about the enormous picture, I didn't realise it was so huge.

I hear ya... :(

Although then I think of Torchwood and remember that sometimes a 4th season is worse than no season. (Although the Lucifer writers are probably way better than that of course.)

I agree that there a lot more options for shows now. And let's not forget that it was a change of networks that kept Buffy going for 2 extra years and that was 15 years ago.

That's good news about B99. And I think you're right in raising the issue of Disney's buyout of FOX, I had forgotten about how that might affect their network planning going forward.

One of the oddest things I saw was discussion of how Gotham's renewal depends on whether they can recast the lead in Lethal Weapon by next week. It's due to be cancelled but if Lethal Weapon, which has been much more successful, can't go forward then Gotham gets its spot on the schedule.

I didn't watch this season of Gotham at all, I'd become quite tired of it. It's been around longer than Lucifer and has a much bigger budget and also is a WB production. So I'd have thought this would go first.

1. Regarding Disney's buyout of Fox? They can't buy the network channel -- there's a rule that you can't own two prime time networks. ie. Disney can't own ABC and Fox, that's consider a violation of anti-trust. So FOX is keeping their news outlets, their sporting networks and the channel Fox, but not the studio or 20th Century Fox, which is now 20th Century. I know, confusing. So, what Murdoch is doing is putting everything into the news and sports, which he has kept control of. Also the Football air rights are really pricey.

2. Regarding Lucifer over Gotham? I don't understand that either. I find Gotham unwatchable and gave up on it ages ago. I'm amazed it is still on. Should have been cancelled two seasons ago.

Lethal Weapon has a problem because Clayne Crawford got in trouble with the cast and crew and got reprimanded for bad behavior. (Hmm...that Martin Riggs character has bad mojo for actors in that role.) I think they should cancel the series -- it's not recastable. The only reason I watched the handful of episodes that I watched was for Clayne Crawford's Riggs and his banter with Damon Waylans. That role is insanely difficult to recast.

What they should have done was cancel Lethal Weapon and Gotham and keep Lucifer. Seriously, Fox. Also stop relying on the stupid Neilsen ratings. They aren't that reliable. Marketing scum. (Neilsen Ratings is an antiqueated and unreliable marketing tool used by advertisers to determine which shows are being watched the most. Discovered this in a marketing course I took once, was a bit eye-opening.)

I think their ratings are going to sink. Streaming is kicking the broadcast networks butts, and they deserve it.

To your fuck, I answer with Spike's balls. Just watched the two stand-alone episodes. And cried.

And just noticed I used his balls in the previous post. Oh well... they're worth reusing.

Agreed. I was disappointed in it. It felt too much like an extended version of the dark dystopic future of Days of Future Past. And they really need to break out of the...find them, capture them, escape, find them, capture them, escape...story arcs.

Lucifer -- I wish was picked up by a subscription service willing to throw money at it, and drop the procedural angle. Because it could be a really cool series if they did that.

Which I'd prefer a great deal. I like procedurals that are solved over a season arc, as opposed to within the space of an episode. They are written better. Lucifer's first season sort of did that. This mystery of the week format just doesn't work for me.

Sigh...Netflix? Come on.
