but the idea of turning a TV series based on the very dark Lucifer comics into a light-hearted procedural with the supernatural elements shoved into the background as much as possible (as, so Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich revealed, demanded by the suits at Fox) still strikes me as ridiculous.
Yep. The story doesn't work well as a light procedural. Also the writers aren't good at procedural. Procedural is hard to do well -- you have to know the world to write it. And, the original material doesn't really lend itself to it.
