Woke up really early this morning all set to post my [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles story, but thought I should check the posting dates first just in case. Good thing I did too, because as it turns out, my posting day is not today but Friday. Why I chose that day I cannot now imagine (it's incredibly inconvenient), but there it is. Sorry to the one or two of you waiting to read it, and very sorry to my beta for yesterday's panic.

:smacks self on forehead:

In better news, last night's first episode of Torchwood: Children of Earth...

mild spoilers within for that and BSG final run of eps no 3.

....was actually bloody good. It looked good, the acting was good, the dialogue was great. Loved Gwen's little exchange with Rhys as she drove over the Severn Bridge, and her saying hello to the picture of Tosh and Owen, and Ianto's family - his brother-in-law's greeting was hysterical - and Jack's daughter, and Peter Capaldi, and the scary kids (bet there were lots of happy school kids in Cardiff when they filmed that), and the Prime Minister washing his hands etc etc. In fact, the only thing that struck me as unbelievable is that Peter Capaldi's very efficient secretary would give the newbie (who is probably a reporter in disguise) her password like that, even in that volatile situation. Apart from that, loved it - and I did still get to laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of one thing, which was John Barrowman running. He looks really stupid!

Also, why on earth do they have to stick poor little Gareth in shirts with too-tight collars? He always looks like he's choking.

One last thing, Jack and Ianto are way too happy together. Be afraid, Jack/Ianto 'shippers. Be very, very afraid.

Just previous to watching TW, I'd seen the third of the final run of BSG episodes, the one where Gaeta leads a mutiny on Galactica, and it was absolutely superb, edge-of-the-seat stuff (I adore Adama/Tigh so much!). So it really goes to show how much improved TW was that it didn't suffer much by the comparison.

Don't have any TW icons except Captain John ones, but since he can't be in it, I feel it's only fair he gets to participate somehow. :imagines him watching the mayhem from somewhere in the south of France and enjoying every minute:

Yes, this! And, even worse, that her password was so unbelievably simple!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! In fact, I'd meant to mention something about that when I posted about the episode...

Oh yes, the cosy Jack/Ianto couple talk could lead to so much angst....I'm sure they will not resist!

Ah I thought it was true that Jack had a daughter. Is she evil, and more importantly was Jack the one who gave birth to her ? I am asking because in the first episode I remember Jack saying he can't get pregnant know due to the birth control in the water system.

Dang I was hoping Jack did birth to her. Oh well :)
You know I have heard of few ideas out their that have Jack or his older incanarnation the Face of Boe, ending up pregnant by the Doctor.

I can empathize. I'm constantly getting dates (and other numbers) mixed up. Probably something wrong in my head. *g*

I loved it too - and found the password stuff equally, irritatingly implausible. Gwen going abroad was hysterical.

One last thing, Jack and Ianto are way too happy together. Be afraid, Jack/Ianto 'shippers. Be very, very afraid.

Yup. I keep getting all sorts of Willow/Tara vibes here.

Just finished watching and totally loved it! Just brilliant stuff!

I do share your concern about Jack/Ianto. They are too happy and that can't last. I also share your view of Barrowman's running. I've thought it looked ridiculous already for some time but never dared to say anything *g*

Can't wait to see more!

It was a really enjoyable hour of television and the motionless chanting children were incredibly creepy.

Yup. It's not looking good.

Yes! Totally agree on Jack's running - I just can't help seeing his stomach bulging out over the trouser belt evey single time!

I thought the same about them all running everywhere - far too silly.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the episode, considering the previous 2 series have annoyed the frack out of me.

As for BSG - I recently re-watched the whole final series on DVD in one long marathon and loved it just as much as the first time. Seriously quality television.

I figure if it's after midnight *somewhere* it should count. And lucky for those of us in the US who get it earlier. :-)
