Spoilers for the episode behind cut, and yes, Captain John is still enjoying the whole thing. In fact, he's just ordered another drink and settled down to watch ep 4 with his faithful poodle Bubbles.

After what I felt was a slight dip in quality in episode 2 (not the whole episode, just the silly rescue scene at the end), ep 3 was back on form. Terrific performances from pretty much everyone, though if I had to pick a winner, it would be Peter Capaldi, who was bloody brilliant. The first negotiation scene between him and the vomiting aliens 456 was so tense I was on the edge of my seat.

I couldn't really pick a favourite scene, but everything involving Peter Capaldi, Ianto's sister and her family (Ianto b-i-l's wheeze with the £10 babysitting fee was wonderful) and Jack's daughter were fantastic. Nice to see Nasty Stormtrooper Lady meet someone almost as tough as she is.

Mind you, though it worked perfectly well, the revelation about Jack at the end could be seen a mile off. Also, does anyone else have the nasty feeling Jack and Ianto might have just missed their last chance ever for a s**g due to Rhys's cluelessness?

Great stuff. Roll on ep 4.

Oh god, that was an excellent scene.

"(Ianto b-i-l's wheeze with the £10 babysitting fee was wonderful)"

"£10 for a kid!" Marvelous line.

Was the last scene supposed to be a revelation? If it was, they really dropped the ball on that one.

Am I the only person convinced that Clem isn't entirely human? What's up with that smell thing?

I adore Ianto's entire family but his b-i-l makes me howl with laughter every time he opens up his mouth.

I'm getting concerned that Ianto seems unable to slip into something a little more comfortable looking than those garish suits. Even though it was very clever of him to shoplift a suit that fitted (although the shirt's still too tight around the collar), he could have made life easier for himself and nicked some jeans, a t-shirt and a hoodie. <-- pointless comment *g*

I'm obviously a bit slow, because I didn't see it coming until just before the big revelation at the end! *g*

I love the fact that we're getting so much backstory and family interaction with Jack and Ianto. And for the first time ever, I actually believe in the Jack/Ianto storyline. I also love every scene with Rhys and Gwen. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that Rhys is my favourite character now! :D

I can't get over just how much better the acting and storylines are this year. I've always enjoyed the show, but the standard is so much higher than it ever has been before!

Can't wait to see Day 4!

I'm either clueless or then my mind just didn't want to believe it since I actually didn't expect the revelation in the end. I knew something bad was coming and that Jack was involved somehow but it still caught me by surprise.

Totally love Ianto's family. And Jack's daughter. Although, I wanted to kick Jack for not getting in touch with his daughter to warn her that she might be in danger. Or maybe he thought the government wouldn't find her.

I'm really getting afraid for Ianto. So many people seem to believe that he's not going to survive. I've stayed far away from anything that seems even slightly spoilery this time around. Can't forgive myself that I went and spoiled myself about Tosh and Owen last year.

Waiting for ep 4 impatiently.

I'm with calturner - Rhys is a revelation. So unlike all the DW and TW wide-eyed volunteers just longing to throw themselves into danger (step forward plot device Lois Abiba - though at least she was scared this time). But Rhys is so damn normal - in much the way that you or I might be with a sudden need to support a heroic partner; tired and pissed off and sometimes very hungry but not about to give up on her - less sure about the world. And deaf to the pleadings of frustrated lovers (yes, I fear too - oh how I wish the beans hadn't been ready).

Peter Capaldi's slack-kneed collapse at the end of the first alien interview gets my vote for single-shot acting though - not a tired slither down the wall, but like a puppet with cut strings as his tension slackened. And didn't we all breathe out in relief with him at that point? I think so.

I'm loving Ianto's B-I-L to pieces. Just the right mix of caring, cunning and just general good humour.
