Jul. 20th, 2009 05:21 pmHi again.
Just to let you know that I'm back. I think I slept most of the weekend. Must have needed to.
Hoping to answer some of the unanswered comments in my inbox at some point. And since no one has linked me, I have to assume nothing interesting has happened while I've been away.
Unless you know different.

Date: 2009-07-21 05:12 pm (UTC)2. Get assigned an author to remix
[2B. Panic. This is apparently universal]
3. Have a look at their fanfic and pick a story which sparks something for you
4. Remix it (see below)
5. Post it anonymously on the remixredux09 site (this is the stage we're at - hence the unfamiliar author names - they are sockpuppet journals, not real authors)
6. Go read the remix someone will have done on one of your fics - for we are all remixers and all remixees
7. All is revealed, authors claim the remix they wrote and can post/pimp it elsewhere as per any other fic. That's in a few days.
Remix as a term seems to cover many things, but it's basically taking a fic and making it yours - whether by changing POV, adding characters, expanding on a small element of the original fic, adding tags or backstory etc. And a funky remix subtitle is practically compulsory.
The story remixed for me took my fic, Echoes in the Air as a basis. It has Giles teleporting to stop Willow at the end of s6 and finding echoes of his attempts to stop Eyghon taking Randal, which affects his view of the present. The remix, which I love, writes the earlier Ripper-Eyghon episode in full, picking up on the hints I left in the original about what might have happened then. Some people do much fancier things I daren't contemplate trying, like that complex tense/voice change fic I also linked to: remix is a very broad term. At bottom, it's playing with another author's ideas, with their permission. Also: fun.
I'm very keen! And though it's too late to participate, it's a great way of finding new fics - both remixes and the originals if you haven't read those. A good place to start:http://community.livejournal.com/remixredux09/tag/fandom:+buffy+the+vampire+slayer.
Hope that clarifies but does not overwhelm!
