S has just made me sit through Shanghai Knights. That's two hours of my life filled with stupid, cheap jokes and silly ethnic stereotyping and massacring of history that I'll never get back.

And to think I could have been watching Bladerunner.

But enough of that. Thoughts within re: True Blood season 1 ep 11, and the Misfits finale. Spoilers, obviously.

I found myself thinking while watching ep 11 of True Blood that I really couldn't care less about the serial killer plot. This isn't because I don't like Sookie. I do like her. In fact, the scene where she faces down the bigoted policeman was one of the best in the episode. It's not even because the vampire characters interest me more than the human ones. At this stage, they don't really, though I suspect they will in future. It's just 'cos it's a bit cliched and boring and there's no reason why we should care that this Renee person has been revealed as a serial killer. If it had been that sweet boy with the bossy mother, that would be different. Then I would care.

I shan't miss Psycho Amy, though I suppose we'll now never know if she meant what she said about loving poor, daft Jason. Oh well. I daresay I can cope.

But the best part of the episode was undoubtedly all the stuff with Bill, Eric and Jessica. That was hilarious. "You're the worst maker ever!" :stomp: :stomp: Heh! And poor old Bill! You can see he just wants to be left alone so he can sit on the porch in his cardy, reading the sports section of the newspaper and complaining about young people today. I'm getting quite fond of him. He's like Angel on tranquillisers, to paraphrase [livejournal.com profile] sueworld2003.

As for the finale of Misfits, must say I loved it, though I wish there had been a bit more Kelly. She's the best new character on Brit TV since the cast of Being Human. I like all the cast, though, except maybe for creepy Simon. I feel sorry for him, especially when Twazzock Boy Nathan is being obnoxious to him, but I don't like him. I do like the way the writers of the show have managed to make the cameraderie between the five misfits so believable, even though some of them can't stand each other. I can't believe there won't be a season 2, given what happened to Nathan, for whom I finally developed some liking during his wonderful 'motivational' speech on the roof. But even if there isn't a season 2, I suppose Nathan, stuck in his coffin six feet deep, not screaming or crying but sort of shrugging and listening to his iPod is as good a way to end as any.

Shanghai Knights is the second one, yeah? I didn't mind the first one but the second one got me so annoyed I gave up after about ten minutes. I will do much for Jackie Chan, but not that.

Well I'm watching Blade Runner and enjoying every moment of it. *g*

Season 2 of Misfits has been confirmed apparently.

Ah, but the sweet boy will have a GREAT storyline in Season Two "looks shifty".

Yes, there will be more "Daddy" hijinks with Jessica in Season Two. Poor old Bill indeed.

The first is okay. I sat through it anyway.

I don't doubt it. Even some of the more serious Chinese films have comic slapstick side-characters.

Or you could have been watching Peking Opera Blues, Swordsman II, or even Kung Fu Hustle, all of which at least have awesome women kicking ass. You know you like it. (MiAmor wanted to name McDiva after Brigitte Lin. 'Cos she's so kick-ass.)

Covering my eyes to avoid spoilers...

Glad to hear you're still enjoying True Blood. I know what you mean about Bill - I have to admit to being quite fond of him myself. And you're going to love Hoyt's character in S2. He has a great storyline!

I loved the Misfits finale. And S2 has already been confirmed, so I've heard. So yay! :)

They're fun for kids taking martial arts. My kids had a teacher who adored Jackie Chan and would adapt some of the movie fights for his students to do in demonstrations. My two had a crowd-pleaser in which he pretended to steal a backpack from the older one and then both sisters beat him up.

The better movies are the ones he made before he went Hollywood, though. Mindless but fun.

I think it's Boyd, actually a fairly common name in the southern US. And I agree. There were moments in S2 when he kept me watching. That and the fascinating experience of watching a show where the border between what will happen on screen and in fanfic has completely disappeared.

Not Hoyte! ::hugs Hoyte:: When they introduce his vampire love interest, you'll understand. Hoyte is just too good to ever want anything bad to happen to him.

Hoyte. And it's his first name. I actually knew a kid named "Hoyte" when I was in college. Then again, I'm from Alabama. ;)

I have warmed to Bill in recent weeks, but am finding I dislike Sookie more and more. And yes, I couldn't care less about the serial killer because he is such a minor character and we know next to nothing about him.

I loved Misfits. If only Kelly had thought to give him his phone instead of his iPod.

Hee hee.

Now, I'd read the first book before watching the series, so I knew all along that Renee was the killer. It made for suspense, for me, waiting patiently for the characters to realize it. I suppose it'd be dead dull otherwise. In the book I liked that the killer was someone she knew, who had been nice to her before.

That said, I think the show is way, way better than the books, and the reasons are twofold: More Laffayette and Tara and Less Focus on Sookie. The books are all in first person from Sookie's POV, so there's nothing happening when Sookie isn't around, you know? That whole Jennifer sub-plot, which I adored! - not in the books at all.

I hope Jennifer stays with us through season 2. I'm looking forward to even less faithfulness to the books! Because as I am on book 7 now, I'm starting to get tired of Sookie.

um, no, you probably have it right. You saw it more recently than I did and I think I just substituted one insanely common J-name for another. :P
