Just a quick review, as it's been a week and I'm afraid I've forgotten a lot of what happened.

Spoilers within, and yes, I am very miffed that I'll now have to wait two whole weeks to watch the finale and by the time I get around to it the excitement (if there is any) will be over. Meh!

I had thought that some of the huge number of plot threads this season would tie up at some point, but that obviously isn't going to happen, is it? Jason's adventures with the hillbilly were panthers, Sam's problems with Tommy, Lafayette's relationship with Jesus, Arlene's pregnancy, even Jessica's reunion with Hoyt, have nothing to do with Sookie's storyline, beyond that they're all taking place in the same town. Not sure what I think of that. I didn't like the Maryanne plot that much, but at least it brought everyone in Bon Temps together. This time they're all off having their own adventures, which gives the show far more of the feel of a supernatural soap opera than a straight up drama. It also means that some characters - Andy Bellefleur, for instance - have conspicuously had very little to do, (though Andy did get a very good scene with Tara in this ep).

That said, I still enjoyed most of it enormously, the exception being Sam's meltdown - though I do like that it was Tara who brought him back from it - and Jason and Crystal. I've taken a real dislike to Crystal, can't for the life of me think what Jason sees in her and find the Jason/Crystal storyline a complete waste of one of my favourite characters. Not that Jason hasn't had some good scenes this season - in this episode, the one with his younger nemesis was excellent - but none of them have been with Crystal.

Where Lafayette's concerned, I'm still hoping for good things from his relationship with Jesus (I already found a nice icon), but am resigned to the fact that we'll have to wait till next series to see them. The same may well be true of Hoyt and Jessica. I do love the fact that they've got back together, but obviously the battle with Maxine and Summer isn't over yet.

As for Arlene, I may be wrong, but I have the feeling that was quite a brave storyline TB undertook with her, but since it seems she's stuck with the 'evil' baby, perhaps not so much. I don't know. I'm very much in two minds about what I thought they were trying to say there.

All these aside, the main plot went bowling along at a good pace with some absolutely stellar scenes for King Russell, Pam and Eric. However, there were a few stuttery bits too, like Bill's all too easy rescue of Sookie at the very beginning (what was the point of that?) and the rather heavy-handed conversation between Sookie and Bill in the car. That sounded very much to me like Sookie saying, "I love you, but I'm going to leave you," and that's what I expect to happen in the finale - even more so now that Bill and Eric (who obviously are in cahoots to some extent) have used her between them to defeat Russell. In fact, Sookie didn't really have any agency at all in this episode, so I expect her to take some of it back in the finale by telling both vampires to go to hell (maybe she'll flashy-thingy them with her fairy powers?) and storming off home.

Best scenes for me by far were all the ones featuring Eric, especially Eric and Pam (got an icon for that too), but also Eric and Russell. Looking forward to seeing how it all ends. Not looking forward to having to wait a whole year to find out what happens next.
