Haven't thought about BSG in a while. Tonight I rewatched dualbunny's wonderful fanvid Cuz I Can (spoiler warning for up to season 4 of BSG, because I know snickfic is watching for the first time), and it reminded me all over again how much I loved the first three (and a half) seasons of that show (because, yes, I too have gone off the ending).

And most of all I loved Starbuck, even when I was so angry with her (as happened a time or two) that I wanted to slap her.

I still find the first season totally remarkable as TV scifi. Great characters and a lot of tension.

Yes, Starbuck is a fantastic character. I hated how they finished it for her and it will forever taint my BSG love, but in the beginning that show was something of the best I've ever seen. And Starbuck is in many ways a female character that has yet to be matched.

I didn't hate what happened with Starbuck individually so much, but yes, I have plenty of problems with the ending now. I would love to talk some more about her arc, though, if you were up to it.

Not being in the BSG fandom, I've seen no real discussion of it, and in particular of her very odd, very disturbing relationship with Leoben. That fascinates me, though I daresay most people just dismiss it as abusive and have done with it.

I'd be totally up for it, though I don't know how to make anything out of the finish. The whole Starbuck = Jesus thing rubbed me the wrong way big time and there were a lot of interesting bits about her family history that were kinda negated completely by it.

I also find her interaction with Leoben fascinating, so yes, I'd totally be up for discussing those things. I just need a kind of cutoff before her miracle resurrection, because after that nothing made sense to me.

Fortunate then that the most interesting stuff about her family and Leoben takes place before the miracle resurrection.

However, for her final interaction with Leoben, plus the scenes with her mother to work, I suppose you almost have to believe that there's something mystical going on - unless you think that she went mad and was suicidal.

'Course, it's no stretch to believe that Leoben was seriously mentally disturbed.

Right now BSG is a weekend thing for me, and hey, this one comming is a three-day weekend. So there'll probably be more BSG reaction.

I loved every inch of BSG from stem to stern. And Starbuck most of all. She was a force.

I didn't mind the ending at first, but I'm not so keen on it now. There's a lot of good stuff in the final run of episodes - Gaeta's mutiny is heart-stopping stuff - but the show lost a great deal of my affection when Dee Doualla shot herself. :(

I still love all the earlier stuff, though, and Starbuck is never less than awesome (though there are several times I want to slap her, as I said, mainly for Dee's sake).
