This isn't the first time this show has had me in tears at the death of a drug dealer, and it's not like I didn't know it was coming, but, Proposition Joe, I'm really going to miss you. At this rate, am going to be in bits when Omar dies.
I never for a minute believed that Joe had a chance in hell of 'civilising' him. :( Even so...:sobs:
I do know that Omar dies, btw, so if that's what you nearly spoiled me for, don't worry. Not that I want spoilers. I've been so spoilered for Dollhouse season 2, for instance, there's hardly any point me watching it.

ROFL. I'd much rather Joss had retconned his own plot to save Prop Joe than Warren. Prop Joe is a much nicer, more deserving person. No, really.
One of these days I'm going to sit down and watch the whole thing again. I've never been so moved by a show as I was with The Wire. Thankfully there is no danger ever of a comic book to come along and ruin it after the fact.

Me neither. Season 4 was just...I can't even say how I felt. All the seasons have moved me deeply. I'd heard that season 5 isn't so well regarded, and I do dislike the silly serial killer plot (Oh, Lester, how could you?), but there have still been plenty of wonderful moments. In the ep I watched today, I loved the convo between Carver and Herc about poor Randy. What happened to Randy in season 4 was the worst thing of all for me. That Carver can't let it go I found deeply moving. As for Prop Joe - well, I didn't realise I was so fond of the sly old sod.
One of the reasons I want to rewatch is to see how season 5 holds up. It was the only season I actually watched as a weekly series and that alone almost killed me. (All the others I'd breezed through on DVD.) I was so scared where they were going to take it all. I actually thought the final episode was brilliant and I find it hard to hold some of the less successful elements of the season against it because of that. At the moment I'd say season 4 was the peak but I'm open to reconsideration.

I would agree, but then so far I've thought every season was the best. I may not think that about 5, but there's a lot of stuff I love in it even so, so you never know.
I think there are strengths to all the seasons and really picking a favourite season is rather pointless as it isn't like my least favourite season is one I like that much less than my favourite (and no don't ask what I'd call my least favourite season).
