Trying to use a non-spoilery icon outside the cut, though it's not the icon I want to use.

More slightly shame-faced Game of Thrones 'shippy rambling behind cut, with spoilers obviously.

Okay, so you know the other day when I thought most people reading about my sudden Dany/Jorah love (she shouldn't have kissed him, damnit, and most of all, he shouldn't have gone on his knees to her) would be thinking ewww! he's old enough to be her father? Well, I'm sure there are people thinking that, but mostly -judging by all the icons I'm seeing, and all the comments about the pairing on [livejournal.com profile] game_thrones, I'm very far from alone. Far from being part of 'we happy few', I seem to be part of a major 'shipping group (in the show-based part of the fandom anyway). Weird.

I also don't seem to be the only one getting bromance-y/'shippy vibes off Bronn and Tyrion either. This is such fun! :Is a happy 'shipper.'

And that's despite having accidentally spoilered myself when, on ordering the first book in the series on Amazon (yes, like [livejournal.com profile] mrs_underhill, [livejournal.com profile] caliente_uk and [livejournal.com profile] coercion88, I am going to read the first book, and then try not to read the second until I've seen season 2), my eye skimmed over the blurb for the latest book - the one that comes out in about 2 weeks. Aargh! And then, if that wasn't bad enough, I followed a link (forget which one) and found all these character profiles (books characters, that is), and before I could tell myself not to look I'd read the Jorah Mormont one (can't help it if I read faster than I think, can I?). Oh well, I can't say I didn't know it would all end in tears, because I did.

But never mind. Until we get to that point I'm just going to enjoy it as much as I can.

I'm falling more and more in love with this show every day. Can you tell? I'm obsessively watching the two GoT fanvids I've saved to my memories over and over again and looking through every icon post seaching for the perfect icon for this character and that character, then seeing one I like even more and changing my mind. I'm even seriously thinking of deleting some of my BtVS icons to make room.

It must be serious.

I can't say as Dany/Jorah does much for me, but I do fancy one-sided yearning!Jorah and indifferent, secretly powerful!Dany. mmmm.

I always sort of spipped Dany and Jorah. I might have ranted about this in somewhere else, but the age differences do not bother me, especially in historical (or semi-historical) shows.

I might go off and rant more in my own LJ. :D

I've missed out on the TV, but will be interested in what you think of the book - so much of the flist is going GoT-frenzied there must be *something* in it...

And he actually writes very very slow. The Neil Gaiman post about the "writer is not your bitch"? That was directed towards a fan whining to Gaiman about George RR Martin not finishing Dance with Dragons about three years ago. It took Martin 6 years to write Dance. Yes, fans have been waiting that long.
The good news is - he was apparently writing To Run With Wolves - the next book in the series with it, and he had to rewrite Dance in order to make Wolves work. He has a blog on livejournal - if you want to find out this stuff for yourself.

While I can't say that I really "ship" any relationships in the series, at least not that seriously...will admit to liking about three. Dany/Jorah was definitely one of the three. The other two - I can't tell you about because they don't happen until the third book. The third book is by far my favorite of the series to date, it's also by far the longest. Apparently they are blending the second and third books for the second season of the tv show - which is good news. (It's a bit like the Wire - the best book is the third one in my opinion. Haven't read the fourth - so can't provide an opinion. I'm just slightly ahead of you. And I can't remember most of book 2.)

I don't remember Jorah kissing Dany this year? I must have missed that? Was that in the last episode or earlier?

The only fights I've seen in the fandom to date are over Catelynn Stark, Jamie Lannister, and Sansa. For some reason those three characters are a bit on the controversial side.

Sorry - meant to imply I have neither read nor watched any of it... But now intrigued by levels of flist interest. Also lots of twitterati sound addicted to the books, and the types I follow are not mostly fannish so I'm intrigued by that too!

I'm very interested in what you think of the book.

I'm not really shippy with GoT, though you could say I shipped Tyrion/Shae at some point. I guess it's more popular to ship doomed ships when there are no not doomed ones. :)

Dany/Jorah... with the chemistry they have on screen (which wasn't really there in the book), that part of ASoS is going to sing. I have great confidence that these two actors will make that stuff really work.

I was surprised that the show made it so clear so early. They've also made quite clear when he stopped because you see him receive a pardon before the assassination attempt in the show.

And I have to say, I don't think we've seen the last of Jorah in the books. It still feels quite unfinished to me. Nothing particularly permanent happened to him, and characters have a way of popping up again in unexpected ways.

I haven't looked but I'm willing to bet that the Catelyn stuff is due to her attitude towards Jon Snow. I was actually somewhat peeved with her in places in Book I. Although I read on TWOP someone complaining about her conflicted feelings about the war, which -- sheesh! I actually liked her conflicted feelings. She had a peaceful happy home prior to the war. Why wouldn't she feel conflicted to see the whole country descend into war?

And I contend Sansa is a well written character because she is such a teenaged girl. You alternate between wanting to hug her and comfort her and wanting to shake her for her teenaged wrongheadedness... which is pretty spot on for young teenaged girls.
