Way back in the dark ages of fandom (ie. 2004/5), I wrote a series of fics called The Furnitureverse, in which Spike (as so often in my stories, especially back then), had suffered some sort of brain damage with rather peculiar results.

Slight spoilers for that story behind cut, should anyone care

Not only had he become so hyper-sensitive to the scent of human blood that he swooned away whenever he smelt it, but he had ambitions to start a pacifist, vegetarian vampire commune (only pacifist vegetarian vampires need apply, and if they step out of line he'll dust 'em) or to join Greenpeace (because they'll need someone to save the whales at night too). He was also very keen on having the death penalty extended to litterers.

Now, while I wouldn't quite go that far (and don't believe in the death penalty anyway), I really wish I had Furnitureverse Spike on hand to scare the crap out of anyone I see littering. Am so, so sick of the mess everywhere. Is it really so hard to take your rubbish home with you or use a bin? Aaargh!

Disclaimer: Am not of course addressing this at my flist, who I know would never litter. No, I'm talking to all the litterers out there. You know who you are. I wish Furnitureverse Spike did too.

This post brought to you by extreme boredom at work, coupled with extreme irritation about the rising amount of litter everywhere. What is wrong with people?

Any of you ever wanted to set a fictional character on someone or group of someones? If so, which character would you choose and why?

Oh, I hate litterers too. Just this week I was standing on a tram stop when I heard something dropping right beside me. I looked down and saw an empty box of cigarettes laying there, dropped by the girl who was just lighting up inside the tram stop. There was a rubbish bin right beside her but she couldn't be bothered to reach that far. GRR!

I like the new law they've introduced in Sweden. It gives the police the right to give fines to people who are found littering. I wish we had that here too.

I haven't thought about setting any fictional characters on anyone but now that you mentioned it, I might give it some thought. *g*

Ah the furnitureverse - happy memories. And of course it's spinoff, which I suppose should be called the bumverse. You once got the entire band of the Coldstream Guards up there, as I recall.

Well quite. And I expect Greenpeace has something to say about the bearskins. And that's not even to touch on the question of noise abatement.

I grew up with the Girl Scout motto of always leave your camping spot cleaner than when you found it, and litterers drive me mad. (Now if only I could extend this outdoor tidiness to my housework...)

There are many situations in which I think having Spike around would be handy. Endless meetings, for example, would be livened up by his presence. Recalcitrant bureaucrats would be more cooperative after a show of fangs. And my students! There would be no more furtive in-class texting if I threatened them with Spike.

I dunno, if Spike had been in any of my college courses, I wouldn't have been paying attention to anything but him. :D

Yeah, so would I, actually.

Don't tell me about it. I often pick up litters left by inhabitants of the building where I live either in the garage or in the yard and carry them to the bin. Do these people like to live in a dustbin? I really don't understand this behaviour. Makes me angry.

I have, on occasion, after some jerk is particularly sexist in front of me, fantasized about Buffy pimp-slapping him.
