:squee: Enjoyed that. The Hour is a new BBC six part series set at the BBC in the 50s, about an attempt to set up a new hard-hitting news program featuring proper journalism, at the time when most TV news was reverential stuff about the royal family and debutantes.

Slight spoilers within

There were also some murders and some spy stuff and - topically - a journalist paid a policeman for information.

Beautiful looking, and Owen from Torchwood was in it, along with Herrick from Being Human, and Anna Chancellor (Duckface in Four Weddings and a Funeral - best thing in the show in fact), and Dominic West from The Wire and Anton Lesser, and Juliet Stevenson. All very classy.

In fact, the only slight fly in the ointment is Romola Garai as the main female character. She doesn't convince me, I'm afraid - too modern.

Otherwise, loved it. There was even a murder in a tube station. Yay! (the tube station, that is, not the murder).

Oooh, you liked it? And it sounds like a great cast - at least three actors I love, Duckface, Juliet Stevenson, Owen, and Dominic West.

Really really hope it gets picked up by PBS or BBC America to show over-here, or at the very least Netflix.

This show sounds good. A lot better than the summer fare over here..(is going through Wire withdrawl...which should be remedied on Wed with the next group of DVDs. but no time to watch all of them - since must go away for the weekend to visit the family in lovely Fishkill New York (think the Lake Country or Mid-Wales - mountains, rivers and lakes) - hopefully will be cooler up there, beastly hot down here.

Ooh, ooh, I just watched it - and it was so good!! I was OK with Romola Garai, actually, though I have a feeling Anna Chancellor is going to steal the show as time goes on (I adore the fact that she 'won' Freddy's desk off him somehow). I loved Freddy and his dad, and Herrick, and the débutante woman (am a bit sad she's not going to be there going forward, actually, not that she had much of a character, but I thought she was a good idea for a character, so it's a pity she can't be developed). I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to feel about Dominic West's character - and the rude sexist government bloke with the glasses, I find him a bit strange (though not to do with his character/acting), just because he really strikes me as a younger version of Bill Nighy in The Constant Gardener, so much so that I feel like I've gone back in time and skipped a generation or something. Definitely looking forward to the next ep!
