True Blood season 4 ep 9
Aug. 22nd, 2011 02:49 pmI'm beginning to think I'm the only one still having fun with this show, but not to worry.
Spoilers behind cut.
Last week I was getting irritated again by all the separate plotlines, some of which didn't seem to have a lot to do with each other. However, this episode started to bring them (almost) all back together, so I'm much happier. Jesus exorcises Possessed Lafayette in a scene that I personally found quite moving (yes, I teared up, so sue me). Presumably, at the end of the season he'll be able to do the same to Antonia and bring Marnie back. Antonia, meanwhile, is proving to be just as terrifying (if a lot more justified) than any vampire in the show, with a total disregard for the lives of her followers, completely consumed by her need for revenge (again, it's hard to blame her). Glad to see that in the midst of all this, Tara kept her head enough to warn Sookie off (even though I'm struggling to see why she would, seeing that Sookie is the worst BF ever) and that most of the witches understand that Antonia has gone too far when innocent people get hurt in the process.
Speaking of Sookie, I laughed the whole way through the soft-porn dream sequence. Alexander Skarsgard and Stephen Moyer were just hilarious. I wouldn't mind if the 'love triangle' story was resolved in this way, especially as I've always thought Bill had the sneaky hots for Eric. Very funny. However, I know it won't be, even though what Sookie said in her dream was perfectly valid in its way. No, the end of the season will probably take us back to the beginning of the season status quo, with Eric getting his memory back and forgetting about f**king Sookie in Narnia, and Sookie still on the outs with Bill but much closer to forgiving him. Or maybe the end of the season will feature Sookie waking up in fairyland to discover it was all a dream.
No Pam at all in this episode, but Nan Flanagan more than made up for the lack. She got all the best lines and her cutting response to poor Jessica's teenage woes was also very funny.
So, the only storyline still very tenuously connected to the overall plot is Sam's, which is only connected at all because of Sam's relationship with Luna and hers with Marcus and his with Alcide. Really, really don't care about any of them, except maybe Alcide a tiny bit. It's a pity, but I think the Tommy story has really ruined Sam for me as a character. Oh well, plenty of other stuff to enjoy.

But you have to give ST points for playing Tommy playing Sam, he's got it nailed down. And I'm thinking maybe there might be a shifters vs. wolves rumble at some point.

Oh, ST's acting is great. I just hate the storyline. Also, am I the only one who thinks it's a really stupid idea to take your girlfriend on camping trip in the woods when her angry ex and his friends are werewolves?

Date: 2011-08-22 02:03 pm (UTC)I thought that the Sookie dream was somewhat predictable, but that's probably because I've been in fandom forever, and knew that a 3-way dream had to be coming sometime. It's inevitable in situations like these.

True. It would be amusing - and novel - if it happened for real. But I know it won't.

Date: 2011-08-23 12:57 pm (UTC)Glad I didn't read that. It would probably have upset me. :(
I agree about Sookie's dream. It was incredibly tacky, right down to the red underwear, but terribly appropriate. Sadly, I fear we'll never get that, "Oh Eric! Oh Bill!" moment for real, though I'm sure both actors would give it some welly. Also, I'm enjoying King Bill so much that I'm regretting deleting my Bill/Sookie icon.

Date: 2011-08-23 07:14 am (UTC)I also cried at the Maude scenes. I know I'm most likely the only one but the Debby stuff made me upset too. More sad then reduced to tears. Sad but not surprised. I really like non trashy Debby . Shes kinda adorable trying to be the perfect new modern wear June Cleaver. Its very bitter sweet.
I disagree on Sookie (or as I like to type it SOOKEH. It must always be in caps lock. ALWAYS) being the worst friend ever. I think they both kind of suck to be honest.
I really want to play with Amnesia! Eric. His room will be decked out in Doctor Who and Hello Kitty by the time I'm done with him. Oh and of course he will have Buffy action figures among other things of geeky greatness. Heh... I'm kind of evil.
I agree Princess Bill wants in on the Eric goodness.
YOU AGREE WITH ME! I KNEW IT WAS NARNIA! I spent the whole scene freaking out then I said (to myself as mom no longer lets me watch with her) Why isn't there anything from Ikea? Doesn't his Swedish-ness demand clean lines and simple aesthetics? His cell seems to be an Ikea approved place so i just assumed his Narnia would be one of modern hipsters... *imagines Beaver in a pea coat*
Nan was FANTASTICAL. I need my Pam though. I go through withdrawals all week and I need my fix.
I still feel bad for Jessica. I mean it did not look like either she or Hoytt were happy in the relationship. I know the things he said to her were said in anger but they were awful. So I kind of want Bill to go over and try to have a "talk" with him and just have a really awkward time.
I'm so bored of the Sam storyline. The only thing he did that was worth anything in this episode was turn into a BUNNY OF AWESOME.I know I was the only one quietly singing Bunnies bunnies it must be BUNNIES when he changed. That little conversation with Luna's daughter was adorable and awesome. I am clearly a fat lazy school bunny.

Date: 2011-08-23 01:02 pm (UTC)I only say Sookie is a bad friend to Tara because she seems to keep forgetting about all the trauma Tara's been through, with Eggs and then Franklin Mott, and yet still doing her best to help Sookie - like helping her rescue Bill. It doesn't seem to me that Sookie's reciprocating much at the moment.
