An amusing article from last Sunday's Observer:

First, at last forecasters admit they can't predict UK weather. It's just too changeable.

Do we really want them to predict it accurately anyway? If they did, we couldn't moan about any more, could we? And then what would we all talk about?

It would still happen, predicted or not, so there's plenty of moaning room.

Yes, but you get better moan value if the weather is the opposite of what's been predicted.

Interesting - Mr Cee and I were discussing how good the weather prediction generally is. Not for long range, but definitely for the next day or two (which is generally all you need).

Increasingly, I hear meterologists saying things that seem to translate to: "Climate change makes everything sudden and violent and extreme, but we're doing our best, so get off our backs, okay?!"
