I just watched Something Blue. Before you say, so what, until I watched those Halloween episodes the other night, I hadn't watched any BtVS in ages thanks to the comics. They've really soured me on everything Joss-related.

Which, of course, is one reason why it's so good to re-watch the show. It's a reminder of how just lame and stupid (not to mention how damn ugly) the comics are in comparison and how little resemblance they bear to it.

I'd forgotten so much about this episode, not least how laugh out loud funny it is. Best bit, probably poor old Giles alone with a Buffy and Spike who won't stop kissing, and who is, for a moment - just for a moment - genuinely touched when Buffy asks him to give her away at the wedding. ASH is just wonderful.

Also, early Buffy/Riley is so sweet. I wish they hadn't turned Riley into such a d**khead in season 5. Oh, and Willow really is kind of whiny. She's so mean to poor old Xander.

Hmm, which ep shall I watch next?

Maybe you should watch it and try to put that baggage behind you.

The comics are trash!

I think Riley would have worked better if they'd have not made it clear he was a romantic interest right off the bat.

Intervention?

Such a fun ep!

As for what to watch next, I think it depends on your mood. Sometimes I just want fun, sometimes I want angsty, sometimes I want something visually stimulating and mind-bendy (so... Restless, probably). Sometimes I want music. :D

Lie to Me? Becoming Pt 2?

I'm feeling the season 2 love at present, a hangover from Seasonal Spuffy.

I had the urge to watch Intervention last week which led into the rest of S5 and S6 up to Smashed :D

Thats funny, I've pretty much said the same sort of thing on a post on Buffyforums just now. Not that they'll take any notice of course. *g*

The comics can't hold a candle to the 'real deal' imo.

Something Blue is LOVE. <3 And yeah, the show is the best anti-dote there is. *draws hearts*

Willow is a lot whiny, and not just in this episode.

I just watched School Hard for the first time in ages. If nothing else, it's worth the entertainment value as JM's accent tries to settle in place. *g*

I have many that never fail:

Season 4: Pangs, SB, Hush, A New Man, Who Are You?, Superstar

Season 5: Fool for Love, Checkpoint, Intervention

I could keep going, but you don't need a treatise...

I just watched it with my younger daughter (who's 8 and too young for a lot of the episodes) and she fell in love with Dru. :-)

I'm so glad you're enjoying the rewatch (of this and the second episode you chose). If I could grant you a personal Tabula Rasa so that you could forget the comics that soured you on the 'verse, I would.

But going back in time to the early days helps, too.

I always start with Band Candy, then this makes me so happy that I branch out and watch other episodes. Season 4 is a surprising favorite for me.

I've only written her a few times--she scares me a little.

I refuse utterly to watch the comics. I'm down with a lot of afterwords AU but not the comics!

Okay then!

Season 1: WTTH/The Harvest, The Witch, The Pack, Angel, Prophecy Girl
Season 2: School Hard, Halloween, Lie To Me, What's My Line Part 2, Becoming Part 2
Season 3: Band Candy, Lover's Walk, The Wish, The Zeppo, Doppelgängland, The Prom
Season 6: Life Serial, OMWF, Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Wrecked, Gone, Normal Again
Season 7: Lessons, Selfless, Conversations With Dead People, Storyteller, Lies My Parents Told Me, Chosen

Also worthwhile: Nightmares, Out of Mind Out of Sight, Passion, I Only Have Eyes for You, Homecoming, Earshot, Doomed, Buffy vs. Dracula, The Replacement, Flooded, Dead Things (I know, but it's a great episode), Sleeper.

That's a grand total of 51 episodes to love. About a third of all there are. Less than 40 hours of rewatch time, or a standard workweek. Am I too inclusive? Not discerning enough? Pfft. We love what we love, yo.

I always thought where they went awry was to not mine the angst of Maggie. He should have really had issues with that... but kind of didn't.

I remember at the time being so underwhelmed by the fall-out from the supersoldier crap that i threw in the towel with Riley. There was something quite horrifying about that whole thing, and, apparently what the writers (or at least Petrie) took from that was "James Bond. Cool" :: head shake::

I remember reading somewhere that Maggie was originally supposed to be more of a presence in S4 but the actress left or something? Maybe they planned to go that route but didn't feel they could.

Lovers walk has always been a small favourite of mine... I love Spike in it. :-) And, of course, everything which centres around Angelus, Spike and Drusilla in Season 2. A reason that is my favourite season. ;-)
