Boy, it's wild out there! :whimper:

Mind you, nothing to what they've had/have in Scotland.

I hate winter.

ETA: I don't appear to be getting all my comments as email, just so you know. I'm not ignoring you.

Me too.
I hope the swallow I say on Sunday has found somewhere safe to hide.

Incredibly windy here too! Nothing like Scotland but as I work on the 9th floor of a 10 storey building the wind was blowing like a banshee!

I haven't been getting comments to my posts as email all year...I gave up finally and just check the inbox (envelope icon) at the top of my journal or recent comments.

The only time I get it as email is when it is in response to a response that I made to someone else's post - such as this one for example. But my own? Nope.

No posts from the Isle of Man today - they have been close to the eye of the storm too - I hope they have power. And pictures of Dumbarton are far from reassuring.

That's the trouble with the internet - it gives you more information about why you should be worrying and far more people to worry about. It's been windy here too, but not in the same league as further north.

That peregrine must have thought he was Superbird!

I suppose it's a bit early to hear from my sister, and I read on twitter and other places that power is out in parts of Scotland, so it might be a while. I'm curious to hear how it was where they live. I hope no damage.

Was it noticeably wilder than a usual winter storm. I guess you were pretty close to the main brunt of it. I just talked to her. They kept power with a few dips, but no damage near them. They went shopping today with a few flakes drifting down, but on the way home hit whiteout conditions. I keep telling her about big windstorms here that have had my house creaking, but now I'm embarrassed to mention them as they're only about 90kpm which is scary enough. That's only 55 mph. Inverness had gusts of 105 mph (168 kpm *boggle*) Think I'll keep quiet about my piddly ass little zephyrs over here.

Keep safe.

If anyone would do it, a Peregrine would - I am always in awe of their tactical ability in launching surprise attacks from out of the sun, behind a cliff or whatever. They aren't just fast, they are sneaky and fast.

Glad to hear it wasn't so bad.

That is a very old recording apparently, and performance styles vary so it would doubtless be considered 'wrong' by some people these days, but Gramophone liked it:
In sum, then, not a perfect Messiah but to my taste a very pleasing one, characterized most of all by small forces, light textures, crisp and strong rhythms, lively tempi. To the person who feels that Messiah must be slow and weighty to have its full force as an experience, this set will be unimpressive and may even seem faintly sacrilegious. But I can only say that I feel I have come closer in these last few days to what Handel really meant than any performance has taken me before.

As did the reviewers on Amazon - in fact it seems to come out top in their search. So in a crowded field it's not doing badly :)
