Being Human season 4 final ep etc
Mar. 26th, 2012 03:02 pmI don't know about anyone else but I've loved this series of Being Human.
More behind cut with spoilers for the ep and brief mention of Homeland
I'm sad that Annie has gone, but not too sad. Her story did seem to have come to an end and I like Alex - love the way she sparks off Hal - so am looking forward to seeing what they do with her. I also love the Tom/Hal dynamic and can't wait to see where they go with it. Hopefully, nowhere as bleak as they went with George and Mitchell.
I was surprised that Baby Eve actually died. TV programs are usually very reluctant to kill babies. However, I suppose they did it in as painless a way as possible, given that Baby Eve was with Annie in the afterlife and Grown Up Eve was happy about how it all worked out. Can't say it upset me. In fact, the only thing that did upset me in the ep was Cutler's horrible, gory death. I liked the character and would have liked to see him interact with Hal more. However, with Annie gone and the Old Ones disposed of (Mr Snow was really horrid) the whole finale had a kind of clear the decks and reset feel about it, so I suppose Cutler had to be tidied away too.
I know lots of people loved season 3 -and yes, I accept that was the way Mitchell's story had to end and it was good they had the courage of their convictions etc - but I freely admit I hated it, (though to be fair to season 3, it was season 2 and all that irritating religious fanatic stuff that meant it had to go the way it did). To me, season 4 has been a breath of fresh air. Loved it. It'll tell you something that I disliked season 3 so much I was thinking of getting rid of my seasons 1&2 DVDs, but I think I'll keep them now, and I'll definitely be buying season 4.
As for Homeland, I'm afraid that as of now I'm very disappointed in it. The elements that had me intrigued in the first two or three episodes seem to have been forgotten and it seems to have turned into a standard spy story. So far, so boring. Meh!
Finally, I'm sure the new series of Mad Men is wonderful. Sadly for me, now Sky have nicked it off the BBC, it'll be quite some time before I can judge for myself. Double meh!

Date: 2012-03-26 02:25 pm (UTC)Annie's story has felt over to me so I wasn't as sad to say goodbye to her as I once would have been, particularly as it was presented in a positive way. Killing Baby Eve was a brave decision but it made sense within the story.
I must admit I'm loving "Homeland" and have got completely caught up in it, but then I like spy stories.
I won't be able to see "Mad Men" either :(

Date: 2012-03-26 02:48 pm (UTC)It's definite, then? I admit I haven't checked. And yes, Annie's story felt over. The one thing that struck a false note to me in the finale was Tom approaching the vampires with Baby Eve. I didn't feel that his conversation with the other werewolf suggested that he would do that.

I'm fairly indifferent to them, though I enjoy John Le Carre. It's just I thought there would be more to this. I felt that the first few episodes promised an exploration of certain themes I'm very interested in, but they just seem to have disappeared. What we have left strikes me as humdrum and predictable.

Date: 2012-03-26 03:40 pm (UTC)Of course, I could well be jumping the gun because it may crop up again later, but at the moment, every scene of him doing stuff that suggests he was acting out due to trauma and Stockholm Syndrome rather than conviction lessens my interest.
Also, some stuff, like it really being the blonde American woman rather than the Arab guy who is a terrorist (if that's what she is) is rather predictable. But maybe it's all connected to the paranoia theme. I don't know.
I will watch to the end anyway.

Date: 2012-03-26 05:00 pm (UTC)I'm also enjoying Homeland. At first I was totally convinced that Carrie was wrong, but now I'm beginning to wonder if the writers are doing a Henning Mankell, making someone take a position so extreme* that we discount it, only to find that they were right after all. That's not to say that what Brodie's hiding isn't anything more (!) than his having killed his best friend...
*Carrie's condition being a part of it.
I also find that although I dislike Carrie with a passion, I'm also fascinated by the murk in her character -- how she knows she shouldn't watch certain things but can't help herself, how she's got involved with Brodie, how she used that during the polygraph test -- is she a psychopath, or does she just really, really believe that the end justifies the means?
the blonde American woman ... is rather predictable.
To us, maybe, but possibly not to Americans... And I found myself genuinely upset when the man was killed, which was surprising, given that we'd only known him for an episode or so.

Date: 2012-03-26 07:40 pm (UTC)I'm very excited about the new season of "Mad Men"! It's a shame you're not going to be able to see it yet, though. :( I'm also ridiculously excited about "Game of Thrones" S2. It's been a long time since I felt this excited about a show. I'm so looking forward to it!

Date: 2012-03-28 12:17 pm (UTC)I agree about Tom. He's lovely.
I think re: Homeland, that the thing with the blonde American woman being the real terrorist rather than the Arab guy (if that's what she is), struck me as cliched because I knew that at some point the show would have to include a Muslim character who wasn't bad. That may be its way of doing it, I don't know. I agree that Carrie is very unlikeable, especially for using her drunken tryst with Brodie the way she did. Claire Danes is very good. I'm just not finding the character as nuanced as I could wish.

Date: 2012-03-28 12:19 pm (UTC)Me neither. I wasn't going to bother. Not sure what I'll do now as I'm a bit of a completist about these things.
Also very, very excited about GoT. Not long now. That is, if I can get a d/l. Can wait for Mad Men (it'll be hard, but I can do it). Can't wait for that.

Date: 2012-03-28 12:22 pm (UTC)I think the daft scene of the Vampire Recorder trying not to kill the baby got me through the first ep all right, and once they got rid of George, I've been fine with pretty much everything.
Didn't dislike George, but the endless angst had just got too much for me.
