True Blood season 5
Jul. 10th, 2012 12:49 pmYet another quick post just to say I'm really enjoying this season.
More behind cut with spoilers.
Okay, there are a couple of storylines I'm not so invested in - Terry's and Sam's, principally - but I don't feel they've gone so disastrously off the rails with the characters in question as they did, say, with Sam and the awful Mickenses plot in seasons 3&4. I like Terry enough to watch his arc regardless, and I can see that Sam's arc, with the 'anti-supe' hate crimes gang, is going to tie up with Jason's, who is being set up, it looks like, to join this gang and take revenge on vampires for killing his parents. I only hope -since I think the character is a sweetie - that his essential good nature will triumph the way it did in season 2.
Other good stuff: I'm sad that Jessica and Tara are obviously not going to be friends, but Tara is just so prickly still that them falling out at some point was almost inevitable, even if it wasn't over Hoyt. I do still think that Tara being made a vampire is the best thing that's ever happened to that character.
Finally, I liked Sookie in this ep (her speech before she leads the way through the broken window was hilarious), felt sorry for Alcide, who usually bores me rigid, and thought, huh! Just when you think any parallels between True Blood vampires and real life have fallen by the wayside, up they spring again. Interesting.
Still loving the Bill/Eric Show. And I agree with Bill. Eric is definitely hiding something.
Finally, yay! for Bad King Russell, even if he is, clearly, very, very bad still.

Date: 2012-07-10 12:41 pm (UTC)I thought it kind of took off in this episode. Very interesting parallels being set up there IMO. Also, though Norah (sadly) bores me rigid (religious fanatics tend to), I rather like Salome. Looking forward to seeing if she's playing a game of her own.

Date: 2012-07-10 04:55 pm (UTC)I did find myself yelling "Just kiss already!" to Bill and Eric this week. (If only.) Actually, in this ep I was rooting for a 3-way with some growly Alcide getting in on the action... ;-)
Drunk Sookie is considerably more fun than normal Sookie.

Heh! You know they want to really.

Date: 2012-07-10 07:16 pm (UTC)While I'm a definite Eric/Sookie shipper when it comes to the books, the farther show Bill and Eric stay away from her the better, IMO. All three characters pale when shipping is brought into it.
And yes, short of writing her out of the show, vamping Tara was the best possible thing they could have done for the character.
All in all, now that they've made every mistake in the book, they are getting a lot better at avoiding them.
And I got a much larger thrill out Sookie's callback (shoutout?), "Must be Thursday!" to BtVS than is probably deserved.

Date: 2012-07-11 11:42 am (UTC)Yes, I tend to agree. I was looking forward to Sookie/Eric last season, but didn't really like it once I got it. And Sookie/Bill is too tediously like Bangel.

Hee! Yes Alan Ball claims he's never seen BtVS. Yeah, right.
