Jul. 7th, 2009 06:53 amWoke up really early this morning all set to post my
summer_of_giles story, but thought I should check the posting dates first just in case. Good thing I did too, because as it turns out, my posting day is not today but Friday. Why I chose that day I cannot now imagine (it's incredibly inconvenient), but there it is. Sorry to the one or two of you waiting to read it, and very sorry to my beta for yesterday's panic.
:smacks self on forehead:
In better news, last night's first episode of Torchwood: Children of Earth...
mild spoilers within for that and BSG final run of eps no 3.
....was actually bloody good. It looked good, the acting was good, the dialogue was great. Loved Gwen's little exchange with Rhys as she drove over the Severn Bridge, and her saying hello to the picture of Tosh and Owen, and Ianto's family - his brother-in-law's greeting was hysterical - and Jack's daughter, and Peter Capaldi, and the scary kids (bet there were lots of happy school kids in Cardiff when they filmed that), and the Prime Minister washing his hands etc etc. In fact, the only thing that struck me as unbelievable is that Peter Capaldi's very efficient secretary would give the newbie (who is probably a reporter in disguise) her password like that, even in that volatile situation. Apart from that, loved it - and I did still get to laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of one thing, which was John Barrowman running. He looks really stupid!
Also, why on earth do they have to stick poor little Gareth in shirts with too-tight collars? He always looks like he's choking.
One last thing, Jack and Ianto are way too happy together. Be afraid, Jack/Ianto 'shippers. Be very, very afraid.
Just previous to watching TW, I'd seen the third of the final run of BSG episodes, the one where Gaeta leads a mutiny on Galactica, and it was absolutely superb, edge-of-the-seat stuff (I adore Adama/Tigh so much!). So it really goes to show how much improved TW was that it didn't suffer much by the comparison.
Don't have any TW icons except Captain John ones, but since he can't be in it, I feel it's only fair he gets to participate somehow. :imagines him watching the mayhem from somewhere in the south of France and enjoying every minute:
