True Blood season 4 ep 8

shapinglightOkay, this may count as the nuttiest episode of True Blood yet, and that's saying something.

Mind you, that only really applies to the Sookie/Eric scenes, which have now left the shores of doomed romance behind and entered WTF territory. I can hardly believe that only a few weeks ago I'd convinced myself that Alan Ball was such a Sookie/Bill 'shipper that he would never actually let Sookie and Eric have sex - that he would only tease it, and something would always happen to prevent them at the last moment. Instead of that, though, it seems Sookie and Eric not only can't stop having sex, they have now f**ked themselves right out of Bon Temps and into Narnia.
ROFL.
Mind you, I do still find Woobie Eric very sweet, and if the last scene between Eric and Marnie/Antonia is anything to go by, maybe Antonia feels the same?
Well, perhaps not.
Apart from the utter bonkersness of the magic snow in Sookie's bathroom, which casts a glittery, faintly nausea-inducing pall over the whole episode, it was actually rather good, and at long last Sam's story is being drawn into the main story, if only circuitously through his relationship with Luna, and hers with Alcide and Debbie's new packmaster. In fact, it now seems to be the Possessed!Lafayette/demon baby storyline that's gone adrift (though it's actually quite a good storyline). I can understand why the ghost lady wants Baby Mikey so much. What a horrible betrayal! And I suppose it's not completely adrift given that Lafayette and Marnie are now both possessed by vengeful ghosts.
Elsewhere, I felt terribly sorry for poor Jessica (Hoyt was horrible to her), and enjoyed Suave King Bill very much indeed. His glamouring of the news reporter was very smoothly done. He really is a born politician. Also, Fiona Shaw is (not surprisingly) brilliant in every scene she's in. She completely convinces me that she's Antonia, just as she convinced me she was Marnie. I'm looking forward to the aftermath of the battle in the graveyard. I can't think it can end well for Eric and Sookie (if nothing else, Sookie got a timely reminder of what vampires are capable of, when Eric ripped out one of the witches' spines without batting an eyelid), or that Debbie (yawn!) will let Alcide get away with breaking his promise about staying away from Sookie.
And I'm still worried about Tara.
On the plus side, it was nice to see Pam looking herself again, if only temporarily.
