shapinglightFound myself in the middle of an interesting conversation down at the comic shop just now. Comic Shop Boy (who is actually in his mid-twenties by now) was sounding off about how fed up he is and how he’s had a shitty year, and how there are various people who don’t like him and who he really wants to hurt. Described how he would do it in rather graphic detail, while I and another customer – a peaceable-looking bloke who probably works quietly in an office – tried to persuade him that joining the army just to get an HGV drivers licence was probably not a good idea, since he also said that if anyone tried to give him any f**king orders, he’d break their f**king legs.
Peaceable Office Bloke was trying to tell him how he crosses the road when he sees his enemies coming (and there was me thinking to myself, “Enemies? You?”) ‘because it isn’t worth it’, while I chipped in to say that personally, I’d run like hell. Comic Shop Boy was not impressed, however; said that if he has the opportunity to break the legs of this particular person who’s been hassling him, and thereby take him down a peg or two, thus making him ultimately a better person, he felt it was his civic duty to do it.
Wonder if he’ll still be at the shop next time I venture down that way? Probably, it’ll blow over, but you could tell he was really fed up, as he said that he didn’t care if his house caught fire and his collection of 5000 plus comics was incinerated.
