My Fannish Year 2011
Jan. 4th, 2012 09:44 pmThought I should do one of these posts before the month gets away from me. :is all organised and stuff:
As it turns out, though, it's going to be trickier to do than usual, because most of what I wrote were drabbles, all but two of which were written for
sb_fag_ends, tied to the theme/prompts of the month. In fact, I suppose I should consider 2011 the year I finally learned how to write the bloody things. Not that I don't have a lot to learn still, obviously, but I think I've got the hang of them at last.
So anyway, I didn't write much early in the year because there was a lot of unpleasant stuff going on at work, which was a bit distracting.
January
Oh, Bondage, Up Yours, a Fag Ends drabble, rated R to be on the safe side.
February
Paradox, another Fag Ends drabble, rated PG.
Where No Slayer Has Boldly Gone Before, yet another Fag Ends drabble, which set out to use all that week's prompts in one go and has (as you can tell from the title) a slight crossover element. PG.
March
This month saw an improvement in my fic output, as I had a major operation on my foot, which kept me off work for two months. Naturally, I celebrated by starting a long, extremely NC-17 slash fic, which was eventually posted on my other LJ. However, the only fic I posted that month were - you guessed it - yet another Fag Ends drabble:
Nor Iron Bars a Cage, rated PG.
This was followed by the first thing longer than a drabble I posted in 2011, Like Mother, Like Daughter, PG, also written for a Fag Ends prompt, but part of my Wedding From Hellverse series.
April
No Fag Ends drabbles this month. In fact, not much of anything, though I was still busy scribbling away at my horrid porn story behind the scenes.
Did manage a not-Fag Ends related drabble, though, featuring Spike, Giles, Buffy and a slight case of cross cultural confusion.
Size Matters, rated PG.
May
I finally started posting Love and War to my other LJ, a porny NC-17 epic featuring a bonkers Angel, a put upon Spike, a cast of -well, there were at least twelve of them, dub con, BDSM, prostitution - the usual. You have to be friended to my other LJ to read it.
Over on this LJ, I posted Queen of Hearts, PG, another ficlet from The Wedding from Hellverse, written for a Fag Ends prompt.
June
First Dance, PG, a final story in the Wedding From Hellverse, featuring Anya's point of view on the whole debacle.
At the end of the month, I posted my entry for
summer_of_giles, Night Terrors, R, the third in my Safeverse series, Spike/Giles, a re-imagining of some events in BtVS season 7.
July
Back to the Fag Ends drabbles
Afterdeath, PG.
August
Confessions, R, the next story in the Spike/Giles Safeverse series. This series is still ongoing but will hopefully be finished this year.
September
Another cross-cultural confusion Spike, Giles and Buffy drabble, Tea Wars
Subletting, PG, Spike/Buffy and Illyria ficlet, again written for a Fag Ends prompt and in which Buffy attempts to explain punk rock to a confused former godking.
October
Halloween month. Yay! I started well, posting Bound to my other LJ, Spike/Ethan, NC-17. This fic was an idea I had years ago. Nice to write it finally.
Something Wicked, another Fag Ends drabble, PG, Spike sees Buffy for the first time in BtVS season 2.
The final week of October, leading up to Halloween, was challenge time on Fag Ends, with the evil necromancer Mortifex trying to take over Sunnydale and the members of Fag Ends fighting back by staunchly refusing to take him seriously.
My contributions were Grunt, PG, the irritable musings of a lowly member of Mortifex's skeleton army and Even Necromancers Get the Blues, PG, the irritable musings of Mortifex himself.
I'd also signed up for
nekid_spike's nekid numbers Halloween Challenge but failed dismally to deliver on time. On the bright side, this meant I had something to post in November.
November
Paternity Suit, Spike/Darla, R/NC-17. Nice to return to this pairing, which I always enjoy writing.
December
I managed to finish the year with a fic writing flourish, producing another drabble,
It's Behind You for the Fag Ends Christmas challenge (theme was pantomime)
and two fics
Hell Can Wait, R, Spike/Angel, for
rekindlespangel
and
The Revenge of Santa Claus, PG, Spike/Buffy and Illyria, for
noel_of_spike
Hmm, looking at this post, it's pretty much an advert for
sb_fag_ends, isn't it? Not that this is a bad thing. It's a great community and I'm really proud that it's still going strong in these straitened times for the Buffyverse fandom on LJ.
There were a few non-fic writing related fannish highlights too - in August when I attended Writerconuk, which was lots of fun, as always, as was the Writerconuk mini-meet in December. Thanks again to the committee for all their hard work.
Finally, there was the most fangirly moment of the whole year for me when I went to Sheffield to seeJimmy McNulty Dominic West and Lester Freamon Clarke Peters in Othello. Loved it.
I also discovered three new TV series to love, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife and The Hour, which I'm glad to have found because the dratted Buffy comics had rather soured me on BtVS/AtS. I think (I hope) I'm getting over that now, possibly because my writer's block appears to be gone and I find it so much easier to cope with the comics when I have fic writing to escape into.
And that's it.
