True Blood season 6 ep 8
Aug. 5th, 2013 04:32 pmBoy, this episode was a bit of a downer, wasn't it?
Spoilers behind cut.
I really can't see how Sookie and Bill can come back from this (though I'm still expecting that they will). The interaction between them was just....nasty.
In fact, I felt really sorry for Sookie in this episode. What's happened to her reminded me of a line I put in a recent fic I wrote, in which Buffy finds herself thinking she's doomed to become the vampire's bride, like it or not. 'Course, in my story, Buffy does a doubletake and blames such ridiculous thoughts on having drunk too much champagne. For Sookie, though, it seems to be all too true.
That's True Blood for you, though. And it wasn't like there was no humour in the episode. The look Pam and Jessica exchanged when they met in the corridor was hilarious ("You had sex with him?"). In a way, Sarah Newlin's murder of the TruBlood lady was funny (death by Jimmy Choo) too, but in a horrible, sick way that quite turned my stomach. Not something that happens often on True Blood.
Less funny was nasty Violet pawing Jason. Of all the vampires stuck in that white room at the end of the episode, she's the only one I hope doesn't get to walk out again (and what's happened to Jason in her absence, I wonder?). I want even Steve Newlin to live, despite him shopping James and the others to Sarah.
Elsewhere, poor Arlene at the funeral home! And I hope that's the last we see of the werewolves (yawn!). Also, the Sam/Sookie conversation was weird, and came out of nowhere (unless it was a comment on what happened in the last of Charlaine's Harris's Sookie Stackhouse books). Sookie irritated me during it. And again in the cemetery with her parents' graves (because despite her dad trying to kill her, which, yes, wrong, I can sort of see where he was coming from).
Finally, Eric. I know why he did what he did to Andy's fairy daughter, am glad he didn't kill her (or Holly's sons), because I was really afraid that Norah's death would have left him cold and uncaring enough to do it, and hope that he'll take Norah's words to heart and do everything to get Pam, Willa, Tara and Jessica (and James, hopefully, even if only by accident) out of vamp camp. I think his proactive plan has just as good a chance -if not a better one - of working, than Bill's weird 'my vision of the future can't be averted, so let's try and mitigate it somehow' plan.
I'm still a bit worried about Eric, though. Last week, I'd convinced myself Jessica was going to die (she'd done something unforgiveable, she was resigned to her fate, she'd just met a nice vamp boy to be happy with - if this was Joss's show, the writing would very definitely be on the wall for her). This week, I'm not so sure about Jessica, but instead, quite worried that Eric will be the one to die.
I know that the character's very popular, that the show writers wouldn't write him out just for the drama. But what if Alexander Skarsgard wants to leave? Are there are rumours floating about to that effect, does anyone know?
Only two episodes to go!

Date: 2013-08-05 06:06 pm (UTC)I'm not at all sure that they will. Didn't Alan Ball relinquish control of the series to someone else (I don't keep close track, so I could be wrong, but I thought he took off for his other series prior to this season). He was the big Sookie/Bill shipper and if he's not pulling the strings...
And then there was that Sookie/Sam scene in last night's episode. The final book of the series came back and there were quite the cries of foul over it ending with... Sookie and Sam getting together.
So, I'm not actually sure what's going to happen.
And I have to say I think that Andy was my favorite character in last night's episode. (And I wish they'd bring back Jesus for Lafayette).

Date: 2013-08-05 06:15 pm (UTC)This is true, and Alan Ball was the big Bill/Sookie 'shipper, I know. I actually just went and listened to the writers/producers podcast about the ep on the HBO website, where one of them talks about if Bill and Sookie are ever to find each other again Bill has a lot of apologising to do (which, yeah, not kidding there, but doesn't seem to rule re-Bill/Sookie out completely). They also seem to be couching whatever Eric is up to as a bad thing, because he only cares about Pam and Willa (to an extent) now. However, as far as I can see, Eric is only doing the same thing that Bill planned to do anyway.
I agree about Andy. He was great in this episode. Very glad he doesn't have yet another dead daughter on his hands.

Also: I can't wait to see what develops with Pam and her shrink. I bet it's going to be pretty awesome.

Yeah, though it had better be quick. Only two episodes to go.

Date: 2013-08-06 11:34 am (UTC)I hope not. I love Jessica, and though Eric is of course a complete git and has done some horrible things this season (and every season, for that matter), I don't think I can be bothered with the show any more if he's not in it.
