Writing stuff again, again, yet again, and a nomination

Haven't done one of these for a couple of weeks, what with other stuff intervening.

First of all, thank you to whoever nominated my story Venus and Mars in the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards. I really appreciate the thought.

In other writing news, first I wrote a ficlet for bad poetry week (part of Poetry Month) on sb_fag_ends, Last Man Standing, should anyone have missed it and want to read it.

....I actually should be quite pleased with myself, I suppose. The penultimate story in my Spike/Giles season 7 series (series not on A03 yet, but will be once finished) is ready to post. Thing is, I don't know whether to just post it, or keep it for letsgetitdone at the beginning of December. Because I have nothing else for that.

I have started the final story, but given it's taken me five years to get this far, I'm a bit sceptical about finishing the whole thing off in only two more months.

What do you think?

Also, I'm still plugging away at that Ten Years After series I began on Fag Ends in July. I re-read what I've written so far the other day and I think it's actually quite good (which may well mean it's awful, when I like something of mine other people never seem to). Trouble is, I still don't know myself What Is Going On, and today got thoroughly bogged down in part 13 and was unable to finish it.

Aargh! I wouldn't say this plotting thing used to be easy. But it definitely used to be easier.

I'm definitely not gonna drag out the old "being nominated is just as much of a win as...." cliche. But I am definitely aware of the very subjective nature of any awards, and fandom awards in particular. (the Wicked awards f. ex. had to add an entirely new category JUST for Buffy/Giles vids because so many people sent in nominations for them.) That said, yeah, I want to win awards too - blame it on my fragile self-esteem.

I've recently seen several people recommend your fics VERY highly btw, so in the end it's getting read and rec'd that's the real prize.

Oh, agreed, and I am pleased by the hits they're getting on Ao3.

I daresay I'd be grumpier about never winning anything if I was still writing lots of fanfic, but I'm not. I don't think I've posted anything longer than 1500 words all year.

Now, now, sounds like you're having a bit of that old ending anxiety - it happens all the time on long projects. You get near the end and nothing can ever be good enough or the end just keeps slipping further and further away. Then you finally finish it and you're depressed that it's done. (Well, that happens to me, anyway.)

Don't be so self-critical. Just write.

Yes, I usually suffer from ending anxiety. I shouldn't let it get to me, especially now when so few people will probably read the story anyway.

But I am still writing. Managed to finish part 13 today (by dint of re-writing the whole thing), and have written 500 words more of the final Spike/Giles thing.
