Hmm, I appear to have finished the first draft of my final Spike/Giles season 7 story. Really was not expecting that.

'Course, it's total s**t at the moment (didn't end with 'and they all went home for tea', but might as well have), and even if I manage to make it less s**t, I suspect people are still going to hate the ending.

In fact, they may even prefer 'they all went home for tea.'

But even so, finished! After five whole years!

Hoorah!

Well, per my icon, I rarely mind the "they all went home for tea" ending. With a little sex in it. mind.

Go you! I am very impressed, and pretty darned sure that it's not s**t.

That's very good to hear! The power of random deadlines is a mighty one, and that's just what I was hoping. I'm looking forward to reading.

Congrats on finishing! Just completing such a lengthy project is impressive. Now I know you'll do a great job of editing. Good luck with it!

ETA: If you're worried about reader reactions to the ending, you can always add a tag or two in your AO3 post warning for whatever you think will be the issue, eg., "sad ending" or "horror-genre type ending" or so forth. Then people who abhor that sort of thing can avoid, while the majority can still read with appropriate expectations. Just a thought, in the event that such a thing could be done without being spoilery.
