It's to do with the horrible Boltons.
Spoilers for show and books behind cut, and please don't spoiler me for anything apart from stuff to do with the Boltons.
Anyone who remembers my GoT posts from last year will know that I did not like the Theon/Bastard of Bolton storyline at all (does anyone actually like it? Is GRRM just a sadist?) and could barely watch those scenes. Well, according to my newspaper's weekly TV guide, ep 2 of season 4 will feature the Bastard of Bolton making Theon's life even more hellish.
Needless to say, my heart sank reading that (because it had been secretly hoping without hope that the storyline would never surface again, or at least that the worst was over), so I did what I did last year and went to a ASoIaF Wiki and spoilered myself as to what might happen next. Of course, I found out more than I actually wanted to, including that the show has altered the Theon/Boltons story so far almost out of all recognition.
So, those of you familiar with the books, what do you think? Any chance that - unlike in this Wiki - the Boltons, instead of continuing to rise like scum, will meet their final comeuppance soon, or are they too integral to the plot going forward? Also, do you think it likely (as I do) that Yara's rescue attempt will fail miserably and she'll end up in the Jeyne Poole role and be the catalyst that spurs Theon into finally defying Ramsey?
Everywhere I look, the fact that the Dreadfort (which I hadn't realised was the Boltons'...er, bolt hole) is now featured in the credits is being regarded as a sign of bad things to come. And it probably is, isn't it?
Should I just stop watching now before it all gets too horrible (horrible-er) for words?

Date: 2014-04-13 01:03 pm (UTC)Maybe they will move on to that. If they really plan on fleshing out how Ramsey destroyed Theon's mind completely I am going start to fast forward those scenes.

Date: 2014-04-13 03:56 pm (UTC)In the books it's so that Theon/Reek always suspects Ramsey to control everything that is happening, but I guess they touched that too, with failed escape and so on.
I don't know where they want to take this. But I'd rather go without more torture. The books really pretty much outmax my limit for violence so I hope the show doesn't try to beat them in that respect.

Date: 2014-04-14 08:42 pm (UTC)The 'hunt' scene in ep 2 was at the very limit of what I can cope with. If they hadn't cut away when they did, just no way I could have watched that.

Date: 2014-04-14 08:48 pm (UTC)I hope you're right. I don't want to see Yara end up in a scene similar to the one in ep 2.
