Hmm.

I wonder if I'll ever write fanfic again.

I also wonder if I'll ever get back into creating icons and stuff. It seems I have lots of time, but other things keep getting in the way and inspiration eludes me.

Hope your dry spell ends soon!

*nods* I was feeling horribly uninspired and "dried up" last week trying to make icons for btvsats20in20 - then this week I was culling through some older images for a post and they sparked new ideas. (doesn't always work that way, alas, but at least I've created something even if I don't use it for the 20in20.)

I have however pretty much given up on writing.

When something hits you right, probably. I tend to go through long dry spells (years, sometimes) and then suddenly, for no reason I can see, I'm able to write again. It's weird.

I had given up hope last week, and this week I'm 11 pages into a new fic. Don't give up hope.

You might write something that isn't fanfic.

This.

I also wonder if I'll ever get the same feeling I get when I write Buffy fics with other stuff. I wrote some Thor things and other stories, but somehow my fanfic!brain is majorly fixed with BtVS.

Don't give up! After all these years of lurking, I finally got up my nerve to enter a challenge and now I've written 5 or 6 fics.

In my (ever so exalted) opinion, I think you just Have. To. Sit. Down. And. Write.

I remember reading about renowned female authors centuries ago who did just that, with a 5,000 per day word limit - and that was in longhand!

Why not set up a drabble schedule for November, choosing a variety of emotions perhaps, as well as pairings (both friendships and sexual/romantic relationships).

XX XX (fingers and toes crossed for your endeavours)

::giggles:: I wasn't daring you to write 5,000 words a day! It was merely an observation, probably only of historical value ... to indicate how often women had to prove their worth by exceeding the expectations of others.

Blame Ethan for this additional exhortation!

Should any of the daily drabbles ignite your imagination, then you will already have the foundation of a longer work or series. Consider the drabble as the crucible.

Well, technically, they're exactly one hundred words each, much more than a haiku. Any other short length is a "ficlet". But the reason I'm recommending drabbles is that there IS room to create a short story. Or a scene. Or a conversation. Etc., etc.

Right there with you. But I like to think we will, just not until the mojo comes back. I hope we both get there soon.

Like everyone else, I certainly hope so. :)

I do agree with helenkacan's comments, however 5,000 words are a lot. My daily goal is simply to write 300 words a day and I almost succeed every day.

Eek! I was NOT daring her to write 5,000 words a day. Only 100.

Even if you don't, you've created a great body of interesting, quirky work - adventures, horrors, comedies, character studies, dramas and thrillers.

But I think you will - even when you're doing photo captions you have a lively turn of phrase and a desire to create drama. I think you're just tuckered out - it's been what one might call an eventful year for you.

Have a Giles for naughty fun!
