Agents of SHIELD season 2 ep 10
Dec. 13th, 2014 08:46 pmHello again. Didn't mean to not post for so long, so here, without more ado, is my review of the mid-season finale of Agents of SHIELD.
Spoilers behind cut.
Have to say, I enjoyed it. I found it exciting to watch, liked that the former comedy Nazi got his comeuppance, liked the interaction between Kyle McLachlan's character (whose name escapes me) and Skye - mainly because Kyle McLachlan is a bloody good actor- even liked the transformation scene at the end. Raina seems to be turning into some sort of giant cat. I wonder how that'll work out for her?
I am sorry that Triplett died, but to be honest, you could see it coming, what with the way his character has been so underused this season - to the point that in some episodes he was reduced to Xander-in-mid-season-BtVS-season-7 levels of cameo pointlessness without the actor (as far as I know) having personal problems that made him unable to cope with doing more.
And yes, the whole thing does smack more than a little of 'we have a more interesting African-American character now (because Mac just is more interesting than Trip) and we don't need two of them,' which is very unfair. White characters just don't get treated that way - and it astonishes me no end that this still goes on, and that Joss and his cohorts seems as blind to the fact they're doing it as everyone else.
That apart, Jed Whedon (because I've no idea if Joss is at all involved in this show these days) seems to have the same pet tropes as his brother - ie. skinny little girlies who are 'special' in some way implausibly beating up men three times their size, and killing off minor characters for the shock value.
Hmm, that all makes it sound like I didn't enjoy it. I did, though. I'm just emotionally removed from the whole thing so don't really care who lives and who dies.
Except for one character.
Speaking of whom, I could watch the scene where Skye shoots Ward on repeat. Just wish she'd aimed a bit higher.
My predictions for the rest of the season: The Fitz/Mac dynamic will be reversed, with Fitz now caring for Mac. Whatever Bobbi Morse is planning (and Coulson seems to be suspicious of her now) will involve Hunter turning on Coulson and co in support of her. Why wouldn't he? He has no loyalty to SHIELD. All he cares about is Bobbi.
I'm still sort of hoping that it will turn out that Mr Bakshi had indeed been brainwashed by Whitehall, but I suspect not. A pity.
And oh yeah, Ward will - inevitably - turn up again, and I'll once again be seething at the mere thought of people comparing such a dull character to Spike and Angel.
I am quite looking forward to the show coming back, though, and even more to the Agent Carter mini series.

Heh. For me, the highlight of the whole thing was Skye shooting Ward a bunch of times.
I'll admit that I care about Coulson, too. Second most interesting bit was seeing him fight in this episode. I know Greggson's some sort of martial arts guy — a Brazilian type that isn't capoiera? — and it was cool seeing the leg-wrapping, jumping on upper body of opponent style out of him. Unexpected, especially from a guy who seems very straight in so many ways. In the USA, that usually means menfolk punching-and-shooting type fighting. Yawn.
Fitz/Mac/Simmons has some possibilities, I think. Oooooh. Now that I've slashed the names, I'm sensing a bunny off to the left. Hmmmm.

Same here. As I said, I could watch that moment over and over and over...
I sorta kinda care about Coulson and the others, but not to the point of getting upset if one of them dies (though I admit, I just expect Coulson to not die).

So was he doing his own stunts there?

I'd read it. ;)

Date: 2014-12-17 01:34 am (UTC)That's a fair critique. They are getting Blair Underwood for next season, though, so that's something.
I have to disagree on Hunter, though. I suspect he will jump the other way and side against Bobbi if it comes to that. He may love her, but he doesn't trust her. I think he is coming to trust his team, though. But I suspect that whatever Bobbi's got going on will not actually be evil; it'll just seem that way at first for dramatic effect.
