Game of Thrones Season 5 Ep 8 (the clueless about the books POV)

Now that was a bit more like it.

Not only was there no silly Dorne stuff, and only very minimal Horrible Boltons, but we finally - finally!- found out where that army of White Walkers last seen at the end of season 2 had gone. Seems they really did take the pretty way to the Wall. Or maybe they were never going to the Wall at all.

Very good fight scene. Was sad about the Wildling lady with the kids (though not sure what they were trying to say with her death scene. Was it that women are too soppy about kids to fight them, even if they're dead?)

When the White Walker with the crown (?) did his raising the dead hand gesture, I did think for one moment that we were finally going to find out what happened to Benjen Stark too, but no. I think everyone's forgotten about him. Even the showrunners.

Elsewhere, I thought the Dany/Tyrion scene was great, but am of course still very sad about Jorah. I know it's not in the books, but I am now expecting him to die before the end of the season. He seems pretty determined to get himself killed. Probably, with Dany still so implacable towards him and this horrible disease too, he's decided there's nothing to live for.

Next episode, I expect Cersei to pretend to repent so as to get out of prison, then to start plotting her revenge (possibly using whatever 'work' it is that Qyburn keeps wittering on about). Have to admit, I did derive some satisfaction in learning that Cersei really is as stupid as I thought and really hadn't foreseen what could happen if she encouraged a bunch of puritanical religious fanatics.

I also expect next episode to be back to there being far too many Horrible Bolton scenes. I'd like to think that Ramsay's being over-confident in thinking he can beat Stannis with 'twenty good men' but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that's what happened.

I thought the same, I liked her but then they ruined it.

It's a shame. Oh well, at least she had one of the best lines n the episode - the one about her ancestors killing her if she made an alliance with a crow, but the fuckers are dead, so who cares?

I really liked the wildling woman too. A pity we didn't get more of her. Though yeah, they kinda really hit that Mother Who'll Do Anything For Her Children button hard to give her a personality in a couple of lines. Narrative shorthand and all that.

Well, they didn't need to. All the kids dog-piled on her. ;)

Anyway, she may have been a throwaway character, but she definitely made an impression.

Weirdly, I thought the white walkers were less scary when they were running, world war Z style, rather than walking implacably towards their prey. They just seemed like generic zombies. Still, l agree, it was hard watching the woman who had just acquired a personality instantly die in such a horrid way. Good job zombies haven't learned to swim.

Poor Sansa! Can she take any more betrayal?

I'm actually looking forward to the White Walkers and co arriving south of the Wall. I don't think there's a single person there (well, maybe Sansa, Brienne and Podric) I wouldn't happily see zombified by them.
